I recently purchased (online) a used Lionel Scale T1 duplex (6-28063) that I can't seem to get running. The seller claimed the engine was in excellent condition and operated w/o any issues. It is a beautiful engine but I can't get it to run.

In a TMCC environment, the sounds come on as soon as the track is powered. The locomotive is totally unresponsive to any TMCC commands. I have tried addressing it as the default, and any combination of road numbers. I have also tried to both readress and perform a "restore" with no luck.

in a conventional environment, the sound is on and I can activate the whistle and bell through the transformer. The train will stay in neutral and not move into forward or reverse.

Any thoughts? I got a great deal on the engine and contemplated upgrading it from the start to add cruise capability.i would feel more comfortable if I knew the motor was operational.

It sounds like the antenna might be disconnected and/or the R2LC receiver board is defective. In addition to GGG's excellent suggestions, try swapping the R2LC board if you have a spare available. If the antenna is disconnected, look for a wire (sometimes gray) connected to the handrails and reconnect it to the TMCC motherboard.

Since what you describe will happen if the tender is on the track by itself, being an IR link, I'd suggest it's probably fine.  I'd remove it from the picture for further debugging.

Does the locomotive headlight come on in either conventional or command?  If you can measure current to the locomotive, do you have any current indications when it's on the track alone without the tender?

Found the R2LC board off all of the pins. That obviously did the trick. She runs very well for being 15 years old! Didn't want to run her too much before I grease and oil it. The low speed operation was a lot better than I expected. It also ran through a fastrack 072 switch mutliple times without any issues too.

Thanks for all your help!!!! You guys are great!!!
