To ballast or not?

I have got to a point where I need to decide to ballast my track. The layout is small using gargraves track laid on Woodland Scenics Ready Grass. Haven't seen many layouts ballasted on grass carpets. Is it enhancing enough to ballast. Not concerned so much with being realistic as just appearance. What's your suggestions? If you've done this let me know and pictures would be most helpful.
