Tom McComas of TM books and Video fame passed away recently and I wanted to produce a tribute video of his visits to my home to shoot his layout videos. This is a 10 minute behind-the-scenes video of what many have not seen....Tom at his best!

I remember Tom from many ED-TCA Yorks and especially one time in about 1991 when Tom was videoing at the NY Toy Fair. He stopped by the Aristo-Craft trains booth and was photographing the new ARISTO G-gauge train items. As ARISTO Product Manager at that time, I was tasked with explaining all the new G gauge items that were offered. I looked back today at that video and remembered the great time we had with Tom at the NY Toy Fair. I will miss seeing Tom at his booth in the Orange Hall. Thanks for the memories.

Very nicely done, Terry! A great tribute to a great friend! I have every train-related video Tom ever did, along with all of the TM books (several of which I contributed to). He was a good and trusted friend, and my only regret is that I had not seen him for several (or more) years before his passing, even though we did converse by phone from time to time. Thanks for sharing this sketch of Tom as I remember him.

Thank you Allan, that means a lot to me. Tom was also certainly the King of Remixes. I think between my 2 layouts, they have appeared on at least 7 TM videos! You must have a giant collection.

He also mentioned to me how much larger the market was for more general interests such as John Deere, Ford and Caterpillar.

Great video - thanks for posting it.

My TM story is from 6 or 7 years ago.  On the way to Trainfest, we stopped at the store.  Had no expectations of meeting him, but he was there.  Even though he had never met me, he spent about a half hour showing me around all of the layouts and his editing area, explaining how everything was used and telling the story about how he originally got into Lionel trains.  Although he had probably done the same thing for hundreds (thousands?) of visitors, it didn't seem scripted.  Very gracious and unpretentious.

I always stopped by the TM booth at York, but he was always out and about.  Had lots of great conversations with Bob Phillips (did the repair and TMCC videos).
