I am a relative newbie so somebody set me straight. I got an email notice from Trainland  - Super Sale Notice.

Here is an example: (verbatim)

Williams (042)

Scale GG-1

Horn and Bell Sounds

Pennsylvania

Product #41801

List Price $469.95

Super Sale $149.99

What gives. Are these engines worth it?

There are also ads for A-A powered & dummy Baldwin Shark regularly priced at $549.90 reduced to $199.99 with a free B unit thrown in.

Many more ads as well......

Price drops seem big to me. But, I just don't know enough to be sure.

Williams engines are very good runners in the conventional environment.

Their scale GG1 was a great buy before at a normal street price of $250, but $150 is just nutty

If you run conventional and don't mind a primitive horn (two long, two short grade crossing sequence) and bell, I would go for any of the deal in the e-mail they sent out today (I got it too).

And I thought that my PC scale GG1 at $275 was a pretty good price a few years ago...
(as a NYC fan I had to get PC); $150 for the loco; $120 for ERR Cruise Commander, and
you have a nice, TMCC scale model for under $300. They look nearly as good as the die-cast - there's just not much "detail" to model.

Tempting - and another PRR loco is not something I really want.

When you google trainland all you get is some place with a layout that hasn't been dusted in 40 years.

Sorry - It was listed as Trainworld/Trainland. I should have put Trainworld up. I checked their regular site and they have the discounts up....

Well .
I guess I'm stuck with a green 5 stripe with Pencil Vania on the side of it.
It'd be hard to re-letter it for N&W LOL.

If most of you read the thread the other day about saving money by converting engines to TMCC as opposed to buying them for a thousand bucks. Well this is one of the ways to do it.

Now being a N&W guy and we didn't have any trains down here that ran off electricity
Whats that Canary they were talking about? They said theres something on top of the engine that rubs against a Canary?   I don't see how that little bitty bird is going to make that big engine go?

David

I do think it is 4913 as I was looking thru my magnifying glass. Somebody should have this engine to give you a positive answer.

Dave

Looks like 4913 but I am not entirely sure. What I think is a 9 is especially fuzzy. I tried to look for an actual picture but could not find one. I will most likely be in Trainworld tomorrow so if no one responds definitively by then I'll check the number in the store.

I too ordered the PennCentral, primarily because of the PC GG-1 at the NYC Museum in nearby Elkart, IN.  I'm surprised to see that so many hace purchased the road name. By the way, the NYC Historical Society Annual meeting is the first weekend of May at EssenHause in Middlebury, IN.  It will feature a tour of the museum and the large former NYC (now NS) yards in Elkhart.  Looking forward to it. Ah, Eddie, you don't know Marty very well, do you?  He doesn't buy trains as an investment; he runs the heck out of them on one very large layout (equipped with catenary).  Marty is one of those guys who just has one heck of a lot of fun with this hobby and doesn't sweat the small stuff.

It is an in store deal too. I live down the block from Trainland and after reading this thread yesterday I bought the PRR green version for $149 (had $75 gift certificate too!).

Thanks guys for the tip!!

I called Bachmann about the cab number referenced in my post above and the service rep said that it was cab number 4913.  So...I ordered the Penn Central and the 4913.  This now gives me 35 scale GG-1s all with different cab numbers.  My favorite locomotive so thanks for the heads up....I would have missed out if not for this thread!
