Make me feel like my post counted for something. Thanks.

Plastic shell or no plastic shell, I honestly think this is worth every penny of $150:

My one complaint is the Penn Central lettering is too thin. Looks like a generic font they picked out and italicized. But still, for that price I can live with it lmao

Michael....It is always great to have guys like you that share information that otherwise many of us would not know about.  I do appreciate finding out about this sale.  I didn't get the e-mail so would have missed out on this great deal....of course I would still have $300 bucks in my wallet!!....hey, I'd rather have the locomotives!

Well, I think the packaging on my Williams 773 weighs almost as much as the locomotive and tender do

I don't doubt that their GG1 is pretty heavy itself, just not all 8.5 pounds.  I've had my Lionel JLC model apart a couple times tuning up the pantograph mechanisms, I should have weighed the shell and the frame separately  I just know it weighs almost 9 pounds total.

Today I really wanted to pick mine up in person to save on shipping, but forgot to account for NY rush hour traffic. Fought through all that and bad weather, and arrived at the Lynbrook store just as they were closing.

"I'm here for the Williams GG-1 deal!"

"Okay, which one would you like?"

"Penn Central please, 41808."

".........that's the only one we don't have right now."

That's my perpetually good luck for you. An hour back to the Hamptons empty-handed. Of course I can still just order it and have it shipped but I always prefer getting my trains in person. Oh well

Two other things. When I mentioned the YORK discount code they looked at me like I had two heads. And the Tuscan GG-1 is indeed 4913.

Somebody must have been resting their thumb on the scale when they weighed mine cause my shipping notice said 8.8 pounds.

It's GG-1 month ! !

I just ordered my Conrail and Pennsy green abbreviated stripe.

I found a LN MTH Bicentennial GG-1 Proto 2 at York for $200.

First week of April I got my Lionel JLC Tuscan GG-1 single stripe.

Yeow ! What a super GG-1 month.

And best of all, today I talked with famous GG -1 artist Malcolm "Flash" Gordon.

I've been looking for him for 30 years.

Ain't life strange?

Yippee !

Wow Eliot,

That's crazy . This Monday at 6:00 PM EST on the RFD-TV show "Trains and Locomotives" They'll be showing a video titled "Those Magnificent GG-1's"

Must be a GG-1 conspiracy.

David

I rode the F train to Ditmas after work today and got one of those "other" electric engines. A scale New Haven Rectifier for $99 and a brace or NH passenger cars in a stately green for another Ben Franklin. A whole train for two bills!  I know it's a freight engine but still. Like the engine I'm a Virginian displaced to the North. To reflect this I also got a normal but competatively priced WBB RF&P boxcar because I saw they had been removed from thier new 2012 catalog. I'm very happy with my purchases.

Sure I missed York (I've never been)but I did get some of those nice prices and avoided the car rental, gas prices, tolls, hotel, cell phone confiscation, and nasty carnival food. LOL

If it was standard gauge, you could put a table cloth over the box and use it as an end table in the living room  Just sneak the locomotive out of it and tell her you got a new end table for her.

"Trainland" in Lynbrook did not have any Penn Centrals left when I showed up at the store today. The cabinet literally had every scheme in it except that one. Again, just my luck.

They said the main Brooklyn store has them all and they would be getting another batch from them as early as tomorrow but I'm flying back home to Florida tomorrow so I just went ahead and placed an order for mine, along with Lionel's scale Penn Central 3-bay hopper. Would've preferred to buy it there and take it on the plane but oh well. TSA probably would've had a conniption over it anyway

First I want to go on record as saying I'm just kidding with what I'm about to say.

TSA probably wouldn't have a conniption unless they found it during a body cavity  search

LOL. But seriously any time I ever went through airport baggage check with a train, it was a hassle. It is an irregular item after all. The reaction from the X-Ray technician is always the same. Conveyor belt stops, hand goes up, "What's in this box?" I respond "A model train." They then proceed to pull me to the side, pat me down, yank the item out of the box and packaging to smear it with bomb detection wipes, then leave me to box it back up.

I remember there was a thread a while back where others shared their same or similar experiences with trains going through security. There's also the possibility that I experience more troubles because I am being profiled (young age and Mediterranean complexion).

I checked out your website. You look alright! Very well done sir.

I wouldn't even consider hand-carrying a train onto an airplane these days.  Truth is, I do my best to avoid any air travel whatsoever unless it's aboard a private plane.  I used to fly a lot (even used to jump out of the things), but these days it's just a big pain in the butt, not to mention overly costly and lacking in customer amenities and services.

However, I am willing to fly to Hawaii to visit Don McCuaig, to Australia to visit Dave Allen, and to Alaska to visit a Large Scale friend who lives out in the middle of nowhere (and, of course, to ride the White Pass and railfan the Alaska RR).

As for the trains you buy:  Have the dealer ship the trains...they'll probably arrive at your home before you do.

I saw them at York but by the time I decided to pick one up, I already had one that was converted to TMCC, the Bicentennial versions were gone.

I spoke to one of the guys at the booth, I think he is one of the owners, and he said they had more back in NY and to call the following Wednesday.

When asked if they would be the same price as at York, he responded that they might charge more for some of them depending on the style. Sure enough they jacked up the price on the Bicentennial versions to $169.99 plus shipping. By the time I pay shipping it will be around $175.00 with the 10%discount. Still a good price but not the $135 they were at York.

Oh well you snooze you loose.

BTW: There are a ton of them on the BAY. Not surprising.

If you look around at the other engines on the Williams Page at Trainworld there are still a few other engines still on sale.

Some powered at $99 or ABA sets for $199 just mention code "FREE B" when ordering if the AA shows at $199.

I ordered a couple of times at the sale price in past from them now have a good fleet for pulling trains at shows I do.

The GG1 is a great deal perhaps might order another. Got one before from them and it pulls a long train and looks stunning!

Great deal/

Excellent.  Great service and I have found that their packaging for shipment is second to none.  Micro-Mark is also a great source for just about any modeling tool you can possibly imagine.

Until I checked the link you provided, I wasn't aware that they were offering pricing on WBB similar to Trainworld's sale.  You're right...some very good deals there.
