I've got TAD. (train acquiring syndrome)

I can't pass up any diesel let alone a great deal on one. I just got some more and haven't even had the chance to run them yet.

I'm gonna need a bigger engine terminal. Most aren't even on the rails.

And now a public service announcement (queue the sympathetic heart-tugging, tear-jerking music)

Every year, hundreds of jobless model diesels sit unproductive and alone in closets and boxes. They waste away, never getting exercise or a little TLC. It is a horrible destitute existence as many of their electronic brains become depressed and malfunction.

But you can help. Become a "Foster Diesel Operator." If you can spare a little bit of time, these poor diesels can feel needed and become productive motive power. Remember, an electronic mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Please volunteer before it's too late.

OK Joe. It's time for one of two things -- a decent display case or an intervention. I'm thinking the display case, especially since I have a bunch of diesels with an undecided fate, too.

 You'd better say that Matt!!!

I'm pretty sure I got this problem watching you! I almost ordered a SF blue steamer that I don't even know about.

Now if I's sees it. I's gotta haves it. I'm struggling with the whole steam era thing too.

Did I mention the G scale just doubled???

I need more than a display case!!

I'm gonna need a bigger house and yard. And that darn Frank and Bill, keep suggesting more roads!

Or is it really this:

Every year, hundreds of "modelers" sit unproductive and alone in attics and basements. They waste away, never getting exercise or a little TLC. It is a horrible destitute existence as many of them become depressed and malfunction.....

Yeah, I guess that version could apply, too.

The route to the poor house is populated by those who never say no to a deal even if it has no application to their overall goal, it's also jammed full of the goal-less who tried to spend their way to goal-fulfillment, and then there are the wandering hoards of undecided what-scale thinkers who never chose how far apart the rails should be or how many rails will actually be in their best interest as they stockpile their uncertainty. Beware of this thankless fate less you become eBay's greatest seller of locomotive eclectia...

 Flanger,

This post was a poke at a guy who was clouding up the why 2 rail post. I have no intention of selling anything right now but I could and have. I like diesels and I like to run large trains using lots of them. I wouldn't be satisfied running one engine and  3 or 4 cars. That's just me. I can understand people who like different stuff. I'm into modern RRs.

If I had the talent to do scenery like some posted here, and the want to model older era RRs, I would go a different direction.

I have always liked three scales. HO was my start and I just can't handle the small size and details anymore. G scale is my favorite, but there's not much action coming out of that scale's suppliers.

O scale two rail became my standard and I invest heavy in that direction. I could get rid of other scales when I need to. Right now I'm having fun. I do respect your opinion and others though. I'm actually thinking of selling trains someday to be close to the hobby. It would be a bad choice to make money.

 I just got it....

I like it, I mean them (2)...... Doesn't have the blueish LEDs that Lionel has. There's some sound difference that I need to check out more. Seems like a big step up in a single volume push of the button? Also, some different sound I heard for the slack take out? I just ran it for a minute to make sure it worked. There is some cool talk when idling that's not on the soft keys.

Cool with PS3 how the lights are more prototypical. Nice detailing. Some rough stripe in the plastic down the whole top that I need to check on also? This isn't my first PS3 or ES engine from them. I really like them as you may guess.

I really like the detail and features for the price. I can't post it here as it was below what anyone would guess. I may swap out the shells or not. Anyone need a different road? I can never repaint these things as planned. I'll adopt any of them. Maybe I could renumber one ???

I wish! I just picked this up as a second, rejected. It's not perfect, yet good enough.

I really stalled as I couldn't choose which to order. I have so many ACes and a couple of ES44s, I didn't act. I waffled over the Erie, Southern, and actually all the rest. I still wanted the CN and NS regular paint SD70M-2s.

I really do have too much already. I'm looking like Flanger's example if I step back and look it over. How many diesels vs how much trackage. I'd better start on the layout soon. I need to get the G scale out back if the concrete guys would get pouring!

Hi Joe, I think a lot of guys would like to be in your shoes (buying up trains at the blink of an eye).  Besides trains, I'm into 1:18 scale die cast cars and lately I've been buying like there's no tomorrow.  Just bought 4 the other night.  Getting so many I don't even take then out of the box anymore.  I guess I got bit by the bug.

I really need to concentrate on building a layout.  That would temporarily halt the buying.  Keep me busy building and off eBay.

But hey, can you really ever have too many trains?

Rick

The solution for too large a roster of engines.

Build a much bigger engine house!!!

That's what I did. See photos of my custom built O scale engine house. This O scale model is a scale 100 feet wide by 80 feet long by 44 feet high. Actually two nearly identical buildings have been made. When placed end to end the two buildings are a scale 160 feet in length. That provides 4 bays with a total length of 160 scale feet each. The two center bays are through tracks.  The two outer bays are stub tracks.

Plenty of room for my collection of CSX diesels.

I also plan to build a companion two bay "car shop" to go with this CSX service building.

Yeap, I do need a bigger one or two. My engine shed holds about nine or more diesels, at least three more out front, a stub track where I can switch out engines. Used to be one track and my Allegheny kept getting in the way. Added a extra track off that to park the Allegheny and have room to switch out diesels. Those tracks are usually fouled up with more engines. I lined them up along the wall without a track underneath and that grew out of hand. Finally I leave them boxed up to help.
