Has anyone ever used a piece of towel for ground cover?

I have a section that's approx 18" wide and 36" long and was thinking of giving it a try.  I figure I can use spray adhesive to glue it down and maybe a pick of some kind to "make it grow", make a few spots look taller.  What about painting portions of the towel material?  I know they make fabric paint, but does it dry hard?

Bob,

Another material sometimes used is "fake fur" from the craft store. Makes nice tall grass.

For your towel experiment, you can use any flat latex paint - nothing special needed. It will be really tough when dry.

Something else I always wanted to try was using various carpets of varying shagginess as a scenery base. I've always thought that even using just a short nap indoor/outdoor under ground cover would add some extra texture as compared to just gluing it down on plywood.

Too many things to try - too little time!
