I have taken on my biggest project yet. A scratch buildt from bass wood and brass o scale interlocking switch tower. This one has been and still is challenging but it's getting there. I used the online blue prints to come as close as possible to the original Tower. The original tower has been upgraded over the years and in around 2005 restored for a museum very close to the original site. I have spent alot of time researching and studying the blue prints and I am in the process of building my own version without the poorly located 4 windows on the 2nd story that were not on the original tower. Also in 1952 they upgraded the system to a box with grips which was very unappealing so I stayed with the throw pistol grip switchs of the earlier years. To me there like going from steam to diesel . I also added signage outside to make it quite clear what tower it is replicating . I also decided to forgo the metal cheesy looking roof and will use the hand laid shingles like they used to be. This tower I'm making will need over 2000 and when it's done I will airbrush them to the correct color Tuscan red so the effect will still be there like the museum full size salvaged and restored building. I'm posting some photos of what it looked like before and now and what mine is looking like so far. I hope some of you who appreciate hand made structures will enjoy this. This tower had 24 windows just on the 3rd floor alone . The last tower I buildt and put on the forum only had half that many and was not designed after a prototype but also turned out very well. The Leds really effect well off of the brass switch throws . This one I also have 3 outside hinged working doors and a fire escape ladder that actually drops down which also it hand made. The hinges are for miniature doll house furniture I found at Hobby Lobby. You won't see one of these on any layout. I have to many to post but this should give you a good idea of what I'm attempting to build. The roof and it's over 2000 shingles and 30 plus arch supports will be a challenge for sure. Any ideas or input is greatly appreciated .
