Hi, I just bought a Lionel American Flyer 4-8-4 northern that has no traction tires. Does anyone know who carries them? I've tried Lionel but the part number (40-8047-206) doesn't get a hit. Thanks in advance, Ron Ferrel
Ben, I went back to the Lionel site and did find a parts breakdown for the engine which shows the traction tires are unavailable. I had to get creative with the numbers to even find it by just typing in 8047. I sent them an email and asked them where I can obtain them. Thanks for your help. Ron Ferrel
Doug Peck of Portlines Hobbies has an alternative traction tire that works beautifully on the L-AF Northern. These also appear to be less prone to deterioration.
Thanks very much for everyone's input. I was able to locate some tires and bought an extra set as well. I did get a response from Lionel telling me only that they were unavailable from them. I was able to test the loco successfully without the tires on a 40" circle and have since installed a set. Hope to test tonight on our 105' oval on the club layout.
I have to say that every time I've had a question for this forum, I've received excellent help, thanks again!
