Starting to come up with ideas for the christmas layout this year and I am wondering what kind of switch to use for my sidings this year. I run 027 tubular track and in the past i just used no. 5122s but they require alot of space....is there anything a little bit more narrow? Id rather it be manual because well im only using them to park rolling stock on and make scenes

Lionel Manual Fastrack switches would work with the adapter piece. You should be able to find them fairly cheap.

Don't know of anything smaller in radius then an 027 switch. That's what the # 5122 is. You can take the giant Lionel switch motor off it and install a DZ-1000 switch machine from DZ Industries. I did that to an older 027 switch that was already damaged and had no switch motor on it but the tracks were all there and switch point. You just have to know where to place the switch machine.

Another thing that will work is a Red Caboose ground throw switch, it is a completely manual throw and can be added instead of the DZ-1000 and save you about $16.00.

I use Gargraves and 027 track together on part of my layout so I have done some modifications to a couple of switches that I have.

When you buy them cheap at a flea market sometimes you make do with what you have on hand in parts.
