First of all, I want to thank everyone who has posted on this board on this topic in the past and even provided a drawing. I’ve been able to get the crane apart and clean and lube one of the two gear boxes.But the cover on the second one doesn’t want to budge. I’m afraid that if I put too much pressure of the little tabs that hold the cover in place I’ll break the cover and then be really screwed.
Any thoughts or ideas would be really appreciated.

Thanks for any advice or help you can offer.
As you probably know, there are two gearboxes and two motors for this accessory. The one is question sits on the right, if the crane is facing away from you. There are two tabs which hold the "cover" in place and one tab which fits into a slot at the other end. I can't get the tabs to flex or move.

Lionel's website does not provide any exploded diagrams of the Crane, just a parts list.
Please post some sharp, close-up photos of the part you are trying to remove.
If the gears are plastic, chances are they do not need lubrication, or Lionel would have provided for it in their instructions. Why do you want to lube them?

Mine finally broke,but the screws hole it. (single tab)
I recently lubed and replaced the the belts on mine. I had the same issue. Both were a bear to get off. Luckily I finally just used some pressure on the two tabs one at a time and off it came. Nothing broke.
What did you use to apply pressure and where?
The tab. I worked one side, pulled upward and kept upward pressure on the cover and then went to the other side and did the same.
