A little background on the project. I picked up a Lionel 6-34521 which is a scale F3 but with conventional control. The previous owner converted it to a dummy A unit by taking out the engines and the gears. I thought it would be an interesting project to see if I could convert it to TMCC. With a lot of help from the forum I've been able to put it all back together and get it running using an ERR Cruise Commander. The next challenge is to see if I can get the lighting working. I've got the 2 Lionel lighting PCB boards that would be installed in a TMCC F3. I've got some of the wiring sorted out but I'm stuck at understanding the wires that are coming from the DCDR-S and the mother board. If I can figure those out I may be able to find their equivalent on the Cruise Commander or it may turn out I don't need them at all. Just didn't want to take the chance of blowing things up! I've attached a wiring diagram the wires in question are the blue and pink coming off the DCDR-s and the 2 violets and 1 black coming from the mother board. I also noticed an 8 volts regulator board in the circuit but it looks like the 2 light PCB boards are being fed 18 volts from the track. Not sure if that's the case though, if those boards do require 8 volts I'd have to figure out how to build that circuit or grab 8 volts from the Cruise Commander if it's available.

at all.

The power off the Cruise Motor boards is 5VDC and only support LEDs not regular lights.

Normally the Lighting PCB take in track power and transform it as necessary to run LED and bulbs depending on the configuration of the PCB.  Some times an input from the mother board is the directional headlight input.

The 8VDC regulator is the smoke regulator used to source a constant voltage for the smoke element and also allow 3 levels of smoke.   G

Yeah I should have mentioned I'm only running LEDs I've got the cab lighting converted to LED, I'm taking that feed from the Cruise Commander and if I can get these boards working it'll take care of everything else which includes the headlight and mars which are LED as well as the LED backup light. I was guessing that the wires from the DCDR-S or the motherboard could be data to turn the headlights on and off depending on direction. I won't know for sure until I can figure out what the pinouts of those boards do.

The Cruise Commander has the standard lighting outputs just the same as any TMCC locomotive, they are fed directly from the R2LC.  As such, they are not just for LED's, they are half-wave track voltage through the R2LC triacs.

The Cruise Commander M has the LED only outputs, but they're for markers and ditch lights, not the headlights.
