I have two problems with a couple of Proto-2 engines. On the first engine it keeps loosing it's programming in the remote. is that a battery problem in the engine?
The next problem is an engine with a squeaking smoke motor, can that be oiled? Or does it have to be replaced?
I thought I would ask before taking them apart. I really don't want to send them in for repair if the problems are something simple.

Probably a battery problem in the engine.... A good engine battery is required to change any settings and have them stick.
Yes the fan motor can be oiled but you may have to remove the complete smoke unit to get at it..

Most of the time you could work out the smoke unit just by adding smoke oil and starting and stopping the unit a few times. I Just had one doing this badly and I got it out of it by doing that.
I'll try adding more smoke fluid, although the engine smokes, it was sitting on a shelf for quite a while.
Be careful that you very sparingly oil the smoke fan motor. One tiny drop of SAE 10 oil on the motor's output shaft is sufficient. Too much oil will ruin the motor.
