I was wondering if having 2 TIU's with the number 1 on my layout would work to help get better signal strength. I have an upper level with 2 non connected loops of about 100 feet each. The lower level has 2 connected loops of a little more than 100 feet each. The lower level also has a yard with a lot of switches. There will proably be another section about 10 feet away from the main layout connected by a single track from the outter lower level loop. The upper and lower levels will never connect with each other.

I thought one TIU # 1 could run the upper level loops. The other TIU #1 could have one channel each for the inner loop, outer loop, yard, and the additional section. All engines could be associated with a TIU #1 and I would avoid the scrolling problem by not running in Supermode and avoid wondering which engine is associated with which TIU(very confusing to me after reading Barry's book and reviewing old posts on the forum).  Also, with this set up I thought less track would get assigned to each of the lower level TIU channels and maybe help with signal strength. Only the engines running on each level will be kept in the active roster.

Thanks for the reply Barry. I was afraid you might say that. I'll have to delve deeper into your book to try and understand what specific problems that might lead to. Would it be OK to have TIU #1 run the lower level and make the upper level TIU #2 and not run in Supermode? If all engines were added using TIU#1, can I run them on the upper level with TIU # 2 by using the Read button?

Ed, The issue (there's only one) with fast scrolling has been blown way out if proportion. Further, the workaround solution, that I use every day, is simply to use Quickset Speed to tell your engines to accelerate or decelerate to a certain speed. If you plan to use multiple TIUs and operate the same DCS engines on all of them, Super TIU mode is what you should definitely be using.

Barry and Greg,

Error messages and loss of control don't seem too good to me. Ive got 3 remotes but don't want to be tethered. I'm going to read up on Quickset speed control with Supermode but I think the last time I tried it I didn't like it because the train seemed to speed out of control. Seems like I can get a workable solution to trying to improve the signal strength and running the two levels. Thanks again for the guidance.

Barry I didn't mention anything about lash-ups on this thread. I'm referring to any engine that ends up in the inactive list in a tiu zone other than the one it was added to. The engine will not come out of the inactive list. With 4 tiu in super this can be a  problem . Thankfully we know about this problem and never use the "read" because of engines left on toggled off siding through out the layout.

Had fun the other day doing some house cleaning with the remotes. , We have 7 remotes and an engine with ID 21. somehow ID 21 vanished from one of the remote and we wanted the engine in all the remotes. Took a while to discover that everytime we used the remote with ID 21 missing it would change the iD number to the lowest available ID making ID 21 invalid in all the other remotes..
