Not quite train related, so if this gets the boot, I understand.   For next year's enhancement to my outdoor display, ( https://youtu.be/cFW2drcduzw ) I want to use LED lights  that go on the item in motion.  And as it passes by a 'charging station' the capacitor gets charged of course.   Anyone here familiar with Ultra Capacitors??  I have questions that I will type-up, but wanted to see if there is some here knowledgeable and willing to 'guide' me,  I need guidance, some would say in many ways!!!

Thnx

For your consideration - a slip ring power connector. I have attached a website for just one such unit. Might be a simpler solution for your application. Found by doing a google search of slip ring power connector.

In the case of using Super Capacitors, you might want to read the following website and gain some more knowledge

I don't get it; there are several items "in motion" in the video...from a train to Santa's flying sleigh.

And why does it have to be a capacitor?  For example how about a rechargeable battery that gets intermittently charged?  I think it depends on the math.  How much power is required, how much energy storage volume is available, and for how long is it away from a charging opportunity?  This would be for an "engineered" solution.  I realize you may only be looking for something simple, that requires no soldering/wiring/etc. that gets the job done with cost being no object...and that's fine too.

Thought of an idea for the chair lift that might work - use paint that glows under black light. Paint edges of lift chairs, paint dots to emulate lights. May need two or three black lights to cover the area you ski lift takes up. Of course, if this technique worked for you, you can use it all over your Christmas display.

Might be worth experimenting with.

Here is just one website selling the paints. Found by doing a google search of paint that glows under black light
