Unidentified RR Item???

Correct, it is battery powered.

I think I have one of these, it was made by Life Like, supposed to be for G gauge, but fits nicely with O gauge. It came with a contactor made for G gauge 2 rail track, but the Lionel contactor works well with it. Now I will have to go find it. 

So this was made for battery operation plus with an insulated track without batteries?

Thanx guys - it's either Life Like or Model Power - it is definitely G scale - I just can't figure out how the battery cover opens - the latch unhooks fine but the opposite side seems to be attached - oh well - now I know more than I did before!!

Luke, if you find yours and it has a box with some identification on it let me know -

Judging by the photo, the end opposite the latch appears to be pushed (jammed?) in too far...or possibly glued.  Carefully run a single edge razor blade along the door with a slight twisting motion.

Thanx, Matt - I'll give it a try - I've been reluctant to "force" it open - I didn't want to break the plastic battery cover.

Unless there is access from the top or you have no interest in installing batteries, you'll need to make an effort to remove the cover.  If it breaks, glue it back together...it's not visible when installed on the layout.  It's Life-Like / Model Power, not Tiffany.

I hope not, but the cover could be glued down by the yook from a corroded battery. Perhaps try to cut through it by running an Xacto knife along the cover seam.
