Trying to identify RDC 3 rail O Guage
Replies sorted oldest to newest
Roy....this is certainly not a 3-rail scale piece so it was moved to the proper forum.
It appears mr publisher, you dont check your statements. The RDC shown above is a Auburn-kusan RDC that is a 3 Rail. How did you come up with 2 rail? You of all people should get it right! Roy
Definitely Auburn / Kusan. The basic tooling was picked up by K-line and then O-Line although with more modern motors and electronics. Fun little cars even if they do scale out to a bit over 2/3 the length of a scale RDC.

Where did this come from? There has never been a claim this is 2 rail.
Is it Auburn/Kusan, or American Models? American Models (correct name?) made nice sets of extruded aluminum passenger cars. Seems that there was a connection between Kusan and American Models....

Just for my own information, but I always thought that the K-Line (later the RMT Buddy) was derived from the MARX tooling, although K-Line did utilize former tooling from both companies. For example, the S-2 switcher was from the MARX tooling but their standard Classic caboose was from the Kusan K-series.
Though the RDC's all look pretty similar (using the photo links posted by @ADCX Rob for the Kusan version) the MARX version has the suggested fuel tank as part of the main body shell, along with the front and rear steps. The Kusan-Auburn version has the fuel tank attached to the frame, and it also appears that the front and rear steps are also attached to the frame.

I stand corrected. Just did some research. Indeed, the K-Line / O-Line tooling came from Marx and not AMT / KMT. Interesting. More research is in order here!
Thank you for all the replies. The editor sent me a note I made a incorrect listing. That this RDC was a 2 rail and was to be sent to the 2 rail forum. End PS some kind person sent me photos to verify it was a Auburn-Kusan other RDC made by same had road names. Roy

Well "Mr. Roy O"....it appears you didn't read what I said above. I never said it was 2-rail...so how did you come up with me saying it was 2-rail? No need to respond however your comment was kind of snarky.

No Editor on this board sent you an email about moving this to 2-rail...period. Next time, contact me directly if you have a problem with us moving your threads. Only I would contact you about such situations so you are mistaken or confused.
