I have 2 Proto 1 MTH subways, and want to take off the shell of the power units so I can remove the original battery and replace it with a BCR.

To take off the shell, one needs to unscrew several Phillip's screws. The problem is that these screws are in very tight. I tried to remove one screw in each power unit, but could not do so, even though I have several Phillips screwdrivers of different sizes. I did not want to force it too much for fear that I might strip the head of the Phillips screw.

What do you recommend to remove these screws? Is there a particular Phillips screwdriver and size screwdriver that you recommend?

I was thinking of taking these subway power units to a store like Home Depot to get their advice.

Hi Arnold,

You may have trouble with the Phillips screwdrivers you currently have.  May I suggest you search for a set of JIS Phillips screwdrivers on eBay.  JIS is Japanese Industrial Standard.  These are commonly used in the orient.  The tip angles are different.  Here's the ones I bought and they do make a difference.
