I posted a few pictures of my waterfall project back on the 2nd of this month.  Last night I permanently installed the waterfall against the rock face and added a technique to get the water to look wet on the fall itself.  Once the waterfall was glued in place, I fired up the hot glue gun and drizzled on rows of hot glue directly on the face of the waterfall and along the sides where it touches the rock.  I think it turned out fairly well for a guy that didn't know what he was doing!!  When the hot glue dries, it has a nice shine resembling water..... Next is to finish the stream bed and then to merge the waterfall with the stream and add the splashes where the two meet.   I would recommend that you double click on the pictures to view them in a larger format or right click on a picture and then open it in another window to get a full page view....if you do so, you will see how nice the hot glue looks as "water"....  As always, I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment...hope you enjoy!

Hey!!...I like that idea.  As a matter of fact I have one of those miniature fog / LED units that goes into a outdoor pond.  Puts out just about the right amount of "fog".  I could put the unit in a glass just behind the bottom of the waterfall.  I will experiment!!

Thanks,

Alan, I had experience with them in the past.....they look great but are messy....water gets splashed everywhere And you will constantly be filling up the glass bowl with water......you may want to consider wiring up a replacement part smoke unit, hidden in the rocks below the falls.  Nice job on the falls by the way!

Alan, the falls sure look good from where I sit. Enlarging the pics shows how well the hot glue works. Good idea. If you go with the fogger, you might put some rocks at the base of the falls. Most waterfalls do have rocks at the base from erosion anyway. Think Niagra Falls but in this case, on a smaller scale. Looks good.

Thanks Pete....I had not thought of the water splashing around..you are correct!

Good idea Ray...I will do just that.  The next part of this project is getting the stream/river done and part of the meshing together of the falls and stream will include just what you suggest!

This one really pops at you when you enlarge it. The hot glue trick really works

I like this one a lot. So don't get to upset if I just stand on the bridge with an umbrella and relax.

Alan sorry, I didn't mean to fall a sleep. Maybe mist thing you can also add waves with little white caps and foaming water that would show the water flowing out from the falls

Thanks Mike....the hot glue makes a great model of flowing water.  I have no idea if anyone has tried it this way but if not, it certainly works well.  It is quick too as applying it on a verticle surface like the falls, the glue flows naturally until it dries.

Please keep us posted.

Yep...I am going to try to do this!

Thanks my friend!!....LOL!!  Once I get the waterfall and stream merged together,  I will model the foam and splashing water and I will put the "Suzukovich Bridge" in the right position so that you can experience the relaxing mist!!

Alan, just one more thought which you may or may not use......try, instead of hot glue, using silicon at bottom of falls, spread it thinly and hit it numerous times with a plastic spoon to simulate the foaming water and splashing.   Tha silicon sets up slowly and you can shape it onto the rocks at bottom of falls

I made a small lake using that method....

Pete....that looks fantastic!!  Let me tell you more about how I used your technique with silicone to create the waterfall.  I cut out a piece of transparent blue plastic sheet and painted it white on the back side.  Then I did exactly as you suggested above...applied strips of clear silicone sealant and then agitated it with a fork rather than a spoon.  I posted pictures of how this turned out a few days ago.  What the falls was missing is it didn't look wet so while I was deciding how to solve that problem I went ahead and installed the waterfall onto the rock face with hot glue.  WOW!...I accidentally found out that as the hot glue dried, it sparkled with the wet look of water!!  I also found that if you allowed the glue to set for just a few minutes, you could create water effects like you suggest above and they look WET...really WET!!  I think I have stumbled upon something here as I don't remember reading that anyone has tried this before now....oh well, someone probably has but regardless, it works nicely!

Alan

Alan,

That looks terrific!  I also like the ripples in the lake below.

To add a little more realism please consider the following.

The falls tend to splash and mist a lot.  This makes the areas around the falls wet and this promotes vegetation growth. This is usual true closer to the bottom.

You may want to add mossy stuff on the rocks close to the falls.

Triple glaze or high gloss paint can to used to make the rocks look wet.

A am jealous of your craftsmanship!

Thanks Rich!....As you probably already realized, this project is not done yet as vegetation such as you suggest is going to be added.  I will also be "aging" the rock making it a little darker and "wetter" near the water along the falls itself.  The entire area where the falls is located is in a corner of the layout that is about 4 feet or so across.  Going over this entire scene is a plate girder railroad bridge at the level of the top of the falls...
