The Coastal Freight from the early 90s is one of my favorite sets.
Since I run mostly Command Control, it has only been out of the box once since we moved in April 2004. With the Advent of LionelChief, I was figuring that Lionel would eventually make a LionChief Plus D&H RS3. However, MrMuffin changed my mind with a great deal on a RailKing Scale D&H SD-45.
Now I have an "updated, command controlled" Coastal Freight.

Peter, I agree. A fun and colorful set. I think one of the last Service Station Sets.
One of my favorite sets as well, I haven't run mine in a while.
Would the D&H shell fit on a LionChief frame?

It will stay in the box and come out when I need a runner......those dual can motor Modern Era Lionel diesels run forever.....

Very nice swap in, Peter.
I'm planning on doing the same with the old Lionel SD40 collector sets from the 80's, and using the new Legacy SD40's to head them instead.
Looks good Peter. I like the RS-3 but the SD-45 is really sharp.

Love the paint scheme on the D&H. Beautiful locomotive!
And Amtrak ran a train on the D&H using home road equipment including PA's. Classy livery. D&H had some S/G equiped RS's. Those with some 2400 style passenger cars would have looked neat!
