I have a question about a video I just seen on Youtube. The gentleman stated you don't need a cab 1, only a command base since you can control your TMCC locomotives with the DCS remote. I usually run my TMCC locomotives with my DCS remote. I set speed limits on my TMCC locomotives to prevent accidental accidents. I looked all thru the companion and can't find out how to do it with the DCS rtemote. So if thats is the case you still should have a cab 1 to set certain features? I'm sure Barry can answer that question for me. I was just wondering. I just got my new Legacy System yesterday so hopefully I'll be able to learn that now lol.

Your post is confusing, but you can run a TMCC train via DCS remote as long as the TMCC Command Base is connected to the TIU. Your post says you do this, so what is the question? Same with Legacy. Yes there are Legacy display features and such that can only be done with the Legacy Remote. G
George,
Gene is asking if a person can set their TMCC engine's speed steps with just the DCS handheld, not using the CAB1 remote.
Tom
Gene,
If you look at the MTH remote, there is a speed key for TMCC engines. When activating a TMCC engine, on the screen there is a label marked "SPD". Pressing the soft key under that label will get you to a screen that shows "128" and "32". Use the soft key below the one you want to select.
If you don't have Barry's book, I recommend getting it. Page 125 explains this and other TMCC controls using the MTH remote.

The speed key doesn't set the speed limit, it just changes the number of speed steps for the locomotive.
While you can set the maximum speed for a DCS engine (PS2 or PS3) using the DCS Remote (Menu/Control/Max Speed), I don't know if that works for a TMCC engine.
Give it a try and let us know. I'll also see if I can try it later today.
If you just got a Legacy system, you'll want to use the 2 systems independently to take advantage of all the Legacy features. You will only have basic functions with your Legacy engines operating them with DCS. You can set MAX Speed with the Legacy System for sure.
If you only have TMCC engines, you don't really lose anything feature wise, by running those with DCS. We have all 3 systems, and mostly use Legacy, just because most of our engines are Legacy, but we can run Legacy and DCS on the same track at the same time.
I was just wondering if you can set the speed on a TMCC with the DCS remote and Barry answered it. I always set the speed limit with the cab 1 to prevent accidental speeding up. The speed setting will work using the DCS remote but you have to set it with the Cab1 or Legacy.
Gene,
This afternoon I confirmed that you cannot limit a TMCC (or Legacy) engine's speed using the DCS Remote.
Gene H,
Yes Legacy works in the exact same manner. The DCS HHRC can not run the FasTrack wireless Command Control switches either, without wiring the switches to the AIU. The Legacy Cab2 & TMCC Cab1 can.

One of the Prime reasons certain things cannot be done with DCS and a TMCC command base:
No SET key equivalent in the DCS Remote.
I have had some luck Pressing the Thumbwheel but it does not always work.
Fortunately, even though the remote lacks a SET button, it is nonetheless able to change TMCC or Legacy ID#'s.
Gentlemen,
Even thou the DCS Hand Held Remote Control (HHRC), operates most of the Legacy & TMCC functions, it is still best to have both HHRC units to get full use of both DCS & Legacy. I find myself using both all the time.
