I know of at least 3 Uticas that host a train show. What state
He is asking about the upcoming show in Utica NY.
I'd estimate that it is approximately the same size as the recent show in Albany.
It's about a ninety minute drive for me, and I think it is well worth the trip.
That's what I thought, but I would need closer to 90 hours to pull off that one.
Utica Michigan, or Ohio I could pull off, and find info for a bit easier.
Pittsburg is about my eastern travel limit anymore.
The Utica ny show is 130 tables in the lobby area of the historic Union Station. As of yesterday there were less than 10 tables not spoken for. It should be a sell out.
thank you, Jon
It would be helpful if someone could post the hours, and any links information about the show.
I haven't figured out when I have to leave yet.
C.W.,
Not sure where you are located, but i'm 34 miles due west of Saratoga Springs and 4 miles from Exit 28 of the NYS Thruway (I90). It's about a 1 hour drive for me and i plan on getting there between 9:30 and 10:00. Usually leave home around 8 as one of the guys who rides with us always shows up 15-30 minutes late! Believe the show runs from either 9 or 10 until 4. Have been going to that show for around 15 years now. Good show where i can always find something to buy i neither need nor want!
As to the original posters query -- i'd suggest he contact the City of Utica building inspector's office as i'm sure they'd have a record of the square footage of Union Station.

Won't be in town this time but this is what is listed for the show. Since we are in Florida now, Will be going to the Volusia County show on Saturday 01/10/2015 Enjoy

Thanks to Jackson, and the other folks who replied to my question about show details.

it usually takes me about an hour and a half
to circle the entire show, more or less.
But I typically spend 3-4 hrs at the show,
because I get caught up in seeing friends
and talking with dealers.
after all Its not about the trains!
Popi: Maybe it was the hat or the bibs, but I always thought you were from Texas. Never actually looked at your profile until now. Well, I learned something new today. Bob S.

Thank you, Jon (shep16)

Me too. Maybe its an association thing. Things ain't small in Texas
Wishin I wuz closer.
Never been to this show. Sounds pretty good so far. Can anyone tell me how it compares to the Syracuse Show?
I'd say about 1/8 the size of the Great New York State Model Train Fair, but Utica is still a good show and has been for many years.
The Great New York State Model Train Fair features many operating layouts of all gauges and vendors. Our show is also a full 2-day event.
Utica has a few layouts, some good local vendors and a great way to spend a cold afternoon "at the station".
As previously stated, I suggest you take the train! I remember attending this show in an Amtrak Rohr Turbo Train in the 1980's. What great memories!
Wurlitzer is probably pretty accurate in terms of physical (sq. ft.) size when comparing it to the Syracuse show. But a great deal of the Syracuse show is taken up with operating and display layouts and has nice wide isles. In terms of vendors if we took away three or five of the largest hobby shop vendors from the Syracuse show (who don't go to Utica), i'd say the Utica show is about 1/4 the size of the Syracuse Show in terms of vendors. However, size shouldn't be the only criteria in judging a show - both are very good in their own right. Been going to both for well over a decade.

Wurlitzer, what a great idea to take the train! The ride on the thruway from Buffalo to Utica is about as dull as it gets. That would really make a day of it. A few years back we took Amtrak to the Springfield show and that was just an awesome trip. I'll check with some of my "train Homies" (that's how my daughter refers to my fellow enthusiasts) and see if anyone is game. Thanks for the reply.
An observation: Some folks gauge whether a show is worth attending by its size.
I have found great items at all sorts of shows, from a small show with only twenty tables or so, to large shows, like Springfield and York.
The show promoters don't bring the merchandise. The table holders do.
Just remember any show or swap meet is only as good as the people that attend it. Both buyers and sellers. All the promoters can do is provide the venue. It is up to us to make it great. Thank you, Jon
