Words cannot express what those who have served managed to get through in their time of their service. At the food store I go to, I see someone who I would call my friend even though a good amount of years separate our ages. He served in WWII as a replacement and managed to get through the war alive. Much like his generation, he is very humble, and whenever I have a hat on, I always will tip mine when the two of us engage in conversation. Interestingly enough, he tips his back to me and says, "Always tip my hat to a gentlemen".
He is always saying, do the best I could, just a humble man who got lucky. That man will bring a smile to anyone's face for sure.
Thank you to all that have served no matter what the situation, peacetime, or wartime.
US Army, but trained with the Marines out of Pendleton for amphibious assault training in conjunction with the Navy on two different occasions. Those Marines had much better chow than the Army and they were nice chaps to us infantry guys!

The Marines had better chow!
You poor guy , they must have been starving you guys in your outfit!
Larry
Onboard both the US Navy AKA transport and the LSD (landing ship dock), the chow was also better than the average Army food - more choice and better bread and desserts! The Army cooks were hard working guys and they did the best they could with what they were given! ☺
The food at the NCO Academy at Fort Carson, which I attended, was also better and had larger servings than my infantry battalion.
A thoughtful read for Vetern's Day is "Starship Trooper" by Robert Heinlein.
(But please don't confuse the book with the garbage shoot-um-up movie with the same title.)

Right on both counts!
8MM film taken by a buddy who sent this to me decades ago. He's gone now.
But this was our Basic Training at Ft Knox. I'm standing outside our Barracks with my M14. The rest are shots of my Platoon coming out of the barrack, we were 2nd Platoon, The Devils. Company D-12-3.First shot is outside Mess Hall, then church we attended, Gold Vault Boulevard, follow it all the way out to the famous Ft Knox Depository. The rest are shots of company ground and end of day training being dismissed.
Boy were we young back then.

Thanks. I was drafted in November 1964. Sure wish I had that M14 now, but they have gotten pretty expensive.
Why do you want an M14?
I can't speak for Hot Water but I'd love to have one for an obvious reason: to shoot it.
