Say it aint so! This isn't EMd #1.... is it!
My oh my that is going to be niiiiiice.
Chris,
Please email me about the kit. I did not see an email in your profile. Thanks, Malcolm
I am having a tough time aquiring that Locomotive Workshop kit on "that auction site". I wonder if Malcolm could scratchbuild me one for 3 rail!
Ed,
There are 3 signs of OLD age!
The first one is loss of memory......and I forget the other two!

New photos on first post.
Brother Love, your talent is showing! That is so neat.
I like it! Brings back some memories of taking the kids to Travel Town. They have one that still runs. I think they got it from McDonald-Douglas in Long Beach. They repainted it red, gave it #1 and named it after Charlie Atkins, the man who put the original Travel Town collection together.
outstanding!.. and quick too!
Fantastic! How do you paint all of the different parts? Just hand brush?
That is coming together nicely Malcolm. What drive are you using in there?
Short video of model 40.
Nice. Is that wheel slip I hear?
Cool! I like his use of Archer Details!
Matt, yes it was. I have since installed 4500 grains of lead and it runs better.
Thanks, Malcolm

What would you use for power? I was thinking a inspection car chassis.

Malcolm what kind of drive did you use? I am thinking of building some small engines and was going to put a modified Weaver tower drive in them. I would like to put together a Plymouth along the lines of the one K-line/Lionel put out. I have one and intended to change it to two rail but I would like something with little finer the details.
As a fan of small critters, All I can say is Very Nice.
Now only if it was 3-rail
This is a modified Weaver drive. I had to shorten the tower. It is listed for sale in that forum. Matt suggested a Beep chassis, might work.
Malcolm
the Loco Workshop kit of the Model 40 uses a can motor that is mounted on a 45° angle, with the shaft worm driving a worm gear on one wheelset's axle. the other axle is driven by a chain drive off the driven axle. the motor sits partially in the cab and one hood on a specially milled brass motor mount fastened to the frame. the can motor is rather large, similar to the 8000 series Pittman.
another option would be a sort of 'tank drive', double shaft motor to two NWSL Mod 4 gearboxes, giving four wheel drive.
Malcolm, I believe your model has greater detail than the LW kit has. Well done!
