Video Of Whitcomb Locomotive In Operation

Thanks for the video.  What's the history on this unit?  It looks like ex-US military, with a Euro-clearance cab.

The 602 is indeed a former Army Transportation Corps locomotive. Here's an excellent summary of the unit's history:

Has anyone done these in O? 

 Quite some number of years ago, what appeared to be a pair of these sat on a spur track outside of the Wilmington & Western in Marshalton, DE. They wore a blue with white stripe paint scheme if memory serves me. I don't know if they were operable or not. And I am not sure were they are now. I have seen them in their previous location in a couple of years.

I don't believe this particular Whitcomb locomotive has ever been made commercially available in O scale. OGR Forum member and Master Modeler "Brother Love" built his own:

That was an excellent link.  I read about the 763rd in Europe during WW2 and the 765th in Korea.  There was a photo of one of these Whitcombs being unloaded in France shortly after the D-Day invasion.  The first Allied train to enter Paris and the first one to cross the Rhine were pulled by these little guys.

It hasn't been, but I know one guy who would be among the first in line to buy a couple!  

It has a fun sound to it.

What a pleasure.  I had never before heard the sound of a Whitcomb.

Thanx for reopening this video.  Missed it the first time.  I don't think that I ever saw a Whitcomb operate before.  Sure hope that they don't have a problem with that engine.  You're not going to call up your local Whitcomb dealer and get repair parts for it!
