Thanks, Larry and Merry Christmas to you too! This is one beautiful train! Don't understand the negativity of some of the posts by others who have not seen or operated it. You will be very happy with it when it arrives, especially with the sound quality!

If your a gg1 fan this has to be neat . I don't like the video though.

I generally agree - there were a few very negative comments about the Lionel vid. I believe there is a distinction, however, as I thought several others offered constructive criticism for future reference when presenting a high-end very pricey technically advanced piece of equipment. That's was I hoping to do in a small part of my post (in addition to complimenting the aspects that were great).
I posted a comment on the video earlier in this thread. As I mentioned the loco it astounding itself. The video however does not look like something a company with Lionel's history would make. It harkens back to the late sixties and early seventies, when Lionel was fighting for it's life and putting out cheese ads. Someone mentioned that most of us could not do better. Then again, most of us are not in the model train manufacturing business.
I think criticizing the video is fair.
Although - I'm not sure this was meant to be an official product profile/review video - since it is a bit crude - more like a bad video blog entry.
Audio is especially bad - not sure these guys really thought this through...chalk it up to excitement!
They should take a cue from Eric Siegel's approach - he's created a nice, repeatable format for product review that makes the train the star.
No reason not to imitate it.

Yeah, makes me wish I had not taken down the wide curve layout, just wont work on my smaller one I dont think, then again, maybe.....

Yes for sure, a little constructive criticism is always useful. I just think we should make these guys feel welcome. I would guess they miss Mike R a lot too. We should be supportive as they get their feet under them and not expect them to be Mike's equivalent on day 1. That said, I hope for the best and am looking forward to my GG1. I am thinking about getting a second one already and I haven't seen my first one in person as yet.

I am looking forward to my PC version but, at the risk of annoying those who want to hear only good things, my two cents is:
1) Sounds so similar to the six JLC GG-1's I have, the difference is minimal. Stereo does enhance the sound . . but ummmm how much?
2) Dialogue is a bit too hokey for my taste
3) Sparkling pans as silly as the depleting coal of my V Big Boy. Hope I can turn them off. Glad I am building catenary. Sparking pans under nothing but air just reminds me not to run a GG-1 under air. The GG-1 is my favorite loco. To me, it should be run under catenary to avoid a much too toylike appearance. I needed this particular paint scheme so I took out my wallet.

Actually, I had posted several days ago about the lack of catenary system making an electric "odd" - so it's not just Eliot's logic. And I don't completely agree with Eliot. A depleting coal load may seem hokey to some, but it is a typical function of any coal burning locomotive. An electric without a catenary system is totally (factually, in real life) unrealistic - more analogous to a coal burning locomotive without a tender.
MartyE - I am not a rivet counter or even close. But the thing stopping me from buying this thing, which looks really nicely done, is my lack of a cat system. Just think raised pans touching nothing will stand out as silly. I'm sure when I see this on someone else's layout I will still love this locomotive and kick myself for not buying ...

A friend of mine says "If you ain't got a GG1, you ain't nobody!".
There is no perfect answer or Logic as to Really Why to Buy this VisionLine GG1, other than it's Going to be simply Beautiful....So the Pantographs spark, That's Neat! In person I am thinking the Twin Speaker System will sound Fantastic...And to make things Super Nice, It's Legacy!!! The Paint jobs really have been enhanced over the years.....YES, The Big Boy Depleting coal is nice, we turn that feature off.
I am anxiously waiting the Arrival of my GG1, VisionLine .....WOW!!!

Toy trains, it's about using your imagination all of the time.
why doesn't some manufacturer come up with an catenary system --non operating--is it that hard? I realize it would have to be adaptable to muti track, curves, switches and track spacing--additionally I guess the pantographs would need to flex a bit and as I recall the new GG1's pantographs don't flex--

The JLCs did not, the VL GG1s do.
I have successfully run my semi-scale GG1 under live catenary that I built for one of my layouts back in the '80s. I'm one of those with a fairly good imagination but running electrics under an imaginary catenary system is too abstract for me....LOL
I have another thread here on the build project of my new catenary system. As I make progress more information will be shared. I am toying with the idea of making it to sell on a per order basis. I see there may be some interest by some of the responses I have read in this thread and in my own thread.
MartyE kniws me well, as do many, and he knows how passionate I am about trains and, in particular, Lionel Legacy. As my wife would tell you, I freely share my opinions. MartyE is also one of the best ambassadors Lionel has and he and I discuss this ad infinitum.
The new Vision GG-1 CANNOT run under live catenary. The sparking LED's prevent this. Flexible pantographs that cannot touch a wire were put there to be flexible so Lionel does not get criticism for not having flexible pantogrqphs. That is Three Stooges logic. They're flexible fellas, just don't use them. WTF?
My catenary certainly will look very realistic but the pans will not actually touch the wire.
My imagination comes into play when I envision myself running a very realistic railroad albeit three rail. My father used to put me into the cabs of the real GG-1's in Penn Station so I love the idea my GG-1's are not toys even if they are. Confused logic to be certain.
I have seventeen scale GG-1's so I guess that makes me a GG-1 nut. I am a nut anyway so if I imagine my GG-1's are real, that's OK.
I just wish there was more value to this loco than stereo sound and sparklers. What could they have added for more realism? A scale Congressional set as good as GGD !!

For some reason electrics have never appealed to me, but if I was to get one, this would be it.
I'm glad to hear folks are reporting these engines are as expected and I hope those of you who purchased them, enjoy them!
