I bit the bullet. I have two VisionLine Triplexes. I love them!!!!! Both work great with 2 Digit addressing. Both fail with 4 digit addressing , tender wheels spin, engine wheels do not move when the throttle is used. Per Dave Olson of Lionel…. Send them in for service. They are on their way to Lionel. I will miss you guys!!!!!!!!!

Well hopefully you get them back quick and in working condition. I have no way to test my 4 digit addressing so I'm split on whether its worth sending back.

I understand completely. For me it’s more of an OCD thing….. I don’t need 4 digit addressing, but if it’s advertised, then I want it.
It reminds me of the latest Challengers. The Challengers worked fine when released but did not have the double Chuff….
I have the Triplex, I do not have the Cab 3. My Triplex works flawlessly with my old Legacy base and Cab2. Do I need to send it in now if I eventually get the Cab 3?

I have my opinion, however if there is any question I would ask Dave Olson of Lionel.

Send it in before the warranty expires. Unless Lionel is willing and announces to do an extended warranty for this issue it's best to get it taken care of within the original warranty time frame. If you want it during the holidays maybe send it out afterwards.

I got my return auth and it is being dropped off today.
Mine also works flawlessly in 2-digit mode. But I cycle through my engines every few years to make room for new stuff. I refuse to put engines under the layout. So, if I have no wall shelf space left and I have something new, then something I have must go. Plus is helps pay for the new item. That is how I keep myself from spending too much, lol.
In that case, if I want to sell it, I can't sell it as fully functional.
Personally, the whole 4-digit thing is fluff for me as I would never have more than 25-30 engines. And now with Rosters in the app, I no longer need to worry about the ID number matching the cab or anything. I can use any number.
I will say I am really picky about the paint finish (just me), so if it comes back all scratched, chipped, I am going to get a refund. It is a very hard engine to handle and hopefully they will be very careful. 2200.00 is too much for a messed-up paint finish. That is my only hesitation for sending it in. Especially since there is no way I could match the green paint.
We shall see!

It’s been my experience, the Service Team at Lionel is good and very careful handling our Trains. Unfortunately or Fortunately, however you want to look at it…. I’ve used the Service Team a lot and never had an issue with damage. That being said, I am sure an accident can happen to anyone. If the 4 digit error is a design deficiency, I wish Lionel would just state that and address accordingly. It’s peculiar, I have two Triplexes and both exhibit the same issue as well as yourself and others.
Lionel shared it could be 6-8 weeks turnaround, so I’ll manage my expectations accordingly. The world will be a happy place again as soon as my Triplexes come home. lol
I'd like to get mine fixed, but I'll wait for a couple more months and see if anything else surfaces that needs to be fixed. I'd like to only have to send this once.
