Yesterday I had a great day photographing train layouts. Forum member JimQ was a great tour guide. First we went to visit Marty Fitzhenry, in Dedham, MA, to see his great toy train layout. Marty has converted all his electric engines to draw power from the overhead live catenary. All of his engines that have pantographs get their power from this overhead line. Marty has removed the pickup rollers from these engines. Links to the photos I took can be found in the "What's New" box on my web site.
The next layout we visited was the Boston Metro Hi-Railers, in Wilmington, MA. Over the past year this club had to move their layout to a new location. Trains are running and they are now in the process of doing scenery to this 40' x 60' layout. They also have a 10' x 36' portable layout to take to trains shows in the local area. I may be doing an article of this group for OGR magazine so I am not able to show you any of the photos I took.
Finally Jim took me to his house, in Hudson, NH, to see his 16' x 22' layout under construction. Links to the photos I took can be found in the "What's New" box on my web site.
Thank you Jim for providing me a great day of model railroading. Also a great big thank you to Marty Fitzhenry and the Boston Metro Hi-Railers for allowing me to visit and photograph your layouts. You all are a great bunch of guys.
If any of you visit the Youngstown, OH area please let me know. I will arrange for visits to some of our local model railroad layouts and train related activities. Also, the OGR World Headquarters and the Lionel Customer Service Center are within 3 miles of where I live.
