First, I am using Legacy version 1.6.

I am trying to get the smoke unit to function in the "prototype" mode, which is to randomly produce puffs of smoke to simulate steam release.  The instructions say to press AUX1 and 9 while in the program mode so, I entered the following sequence:  ENG  48 AUX1 9 SET.  The horn sounds then I turned off the power and set the switch back to run.  No luck but, if I press 9 (+) it will smoke like a steam engine.

Am I entering the sequence correctly?

Sorry, Marty. I somehow lost the handle to my original post.

I reset the engine as follows: ENG 48 SET (horn sounds) AUX1 9 SET (horn sounds).  I set the switch back to RUN.  When I restart the engine I still have no smoke.  On page 14 of the manual it say after setting the smoke unit will run for about 45 seconds.  I went back through setting again with the sound turned down so I could hear the smoke unit - no noise.  I tried cycling it back and forth with the 8 and 9 keys but still no joy.  The smoke unit works fine when I press 9 and turns off when I press 8.

Am I missing a step somewhere?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Marty and Laz.  Following that sequence the smoke unit is working.  With the sound off I can hear it running but I now have a different problem - there is no smoke.  In the not prototypical mode there is smoke so I'm guessing there is a problem with the heat sensor in the smoke unit.

I will call Lionel on Monday.

Once again, thanks for your help.
