I have an MTH SD-9 with Proto 2 installed in it, I found the battery and after a good amount of wrangling, I finally was able to pull the MTH Battery (white in color) and installed a BR-2 in its place.  I put the engine on the track and applied power to it and after a couple of seconds it started up and idled but never did anything else.  I powered it down and back up again but this time I went thru the sequence to start it by adding a new engine, well it still started up and idled but when I tried to make any adjustments to it, the thing sounded like a machine gun going off and every once in a while the bell would give a ding or two.  I'm suspecting a board failure.

I want to rip the guts out of it or whatever I need to do and I want to install TMCC or have someone qualified to do that install it for me if the cost is reasonable.  Where do I buy a TMCC set of boards and exactly how hard is it to install it?  Just trying to get some general information for the time being.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

JEM,

3rd Rail Sunset bought the rights to ERR TMCC boards. I have converted several of my older MTH engines, steam and diesel, to TMCC with Cruise Commander and Railsounds. If you are handy with doing solder and some minor rework, following the instruction on installing the new TMCC boards and Railsounds is easy.

Go to the web site,: http://www.3rdrail.com/err-3rdrail/index.html

Then go to the "MANUALS" page and click on "Cruise Commander". You can view all the details of what is required to install the CC and Railsounds before you buy the boards.

Good luck

RAY

Be advised, the cost to convert to TMCC with full sound and smoke will cost you more just for the hardware vs. the purchase of a PS32 board that is pretty much a drop-in replacement for your failed boards.

I've seen these postings before and this post made me wonder; does the PS32 board come with installation instructions? I've done PS2/PS3 Upgrade installs into non-MTH engines by following their detailed instructions. But was wondering if the PS32 boards came with the same or any instructions.

If you're competent enough to open up the locomotive and consider a TMCC upgrade, changing the bad PS/2 board for the PS32 board is child's play!  The connectors all match, it uses the existing PS/2 wiring and tach reader.  The only thing that you have to do for a 5V board is swap the 16 ohm speaker for a 4 ohm one.  It's nothing like doing an upgrade.
