Warther's Museum Dover,Ohio

Had the opportunity to visit this museum about 1987. For me, the premier model was of a Great Northern S2 4-8-4, pretty much entirely made of wood, including the drivers! Mr. Worther was kind of the Mel Thornburgh (a kitchen table scratch builder featured frequently in Model Railroader in the 40's and 50's, who fabricated brass models using handtools) of wood!  

I was there about 8 years ago.   It was great.   It is not our scale, but the skill in carving the models and other stuff was really impressive.   I found it well worth a visit.   I would visit again if in the area.   

We visited as well. Incredible skills displayed here. Even more amazing when you hear it was all done with hand tools. how do you make a perfectly round wheel tire in ivory with a knife??

been there 3 times once in the early 80's and twice in the last 2 years. truly an amazing place to see anything from a Big Boy to the Lincoln funeral train all hand carved out of hard woods bone and ivory. well worth the visit to hear and see this amazing story.

and if you want some of the best kitchen knives the one's they make on the premises are outstanding, made by some of Mr Warthers family with lifetime warranty and free sharpening. if you are in the area well worth the visit.

Went there many times on school field trips in the late 60s and early 70s. Mr. Warther was still living then and he was always there when we visited, sitting in the lobby and carving miniature sets of pliers with only a few cuts from his knife. He particularly enjoyed telling us about his experiences working in a large boiler shop during his younger days. He carved a large diorama of it and (at that time) had it displayed in the lobby/gift shop area. I need to visit again.
