I recall a friend and I buying a bunch of the wood chip hoppers and not attaching the top extensions just to increase our fleet of Cambria & Indiana two-bay hoppers. These were painted and decaled C&I by us.
I thought I'd post my favorite Weaver car - 57" mechanical refrigerated car in UPFE. I have a couple with sound, but I turned down the volume as they are LOUD out of the box.
Had to have this one since I model the Missouri Pacific. This one was a 3R sound reefer that I converted to 2R.
Mopac's ACF CenterFlows were 3-bay, so this one was converted from the Weaver 4-bay using the Pecos River Brass 3-bay car bottom. The printing states "this car has four compartments" for those that look closely. Maybe one day I'll make a replacement cover for the center hatch. I wish I had a bunch of these - fortunately I have a few.
Here's another favorite Weaver car - high side quad hopper. I only have one, which makes for a very short unit train. I need a lot more!
Beth, please let me know if you find any of these! I guess it's hard to pick one favorite after all.

I believe Pecos River Brass still has some of those 3 bay underframes available. If you can get more of those Weaver covered hoppers, you can still convert them. You could email John at PRB and see if they are still available. He even had some converted cars for sale on Ebay recently.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I bought a couple of underframes from John not long ago so that all five of my MP hoppers are converted. I'll keep an eye out for more of the MP Centerflows to see if they pop up. In fact, I think three of the hoppers I have are from a custom run that John had done by Weaver back in 2003.

Ive got some of the Weaver MILW ribbed side box cars left. When weaver closed, I bought all they had left.
Look under box cars, Weaver..

@coach joe very cool! From what I’ve read about Weaver- Jim weaver produced the PS-2 because he knew people would buy multiple cars for long consists. Did you get yours with the original box? I bought mine used at Hennings in the Ob, it’s the old Red, White & Blue Weaver Quality Craft Models box with the products listed on the side and a check mark next to the product in the box
Weaver is still the greatest name in "modern" model railroading as far as I am concerned. I miss the factory tours, the great customer service, the custom runs and most of all the Made in USA (well mostly anyhow) mantra. Long live Weaver!
Yep, got that original box.
Here are a couple of special run Weaver Models from my collection that I would like to share: a Berwick Hospital Center Covered Hopper car (1994) and a North Shore ("From Northumberland to Berwick"), Northeastern Caboose (1996) that, I am told, were done for "Village Valuables, The Berwick Train" in the 1990's. I found them, quite unexpectedly, many years back while visiting my wife's relatives, in a now closed hardware store in Berwick, PA. There were others in the series, but I have seen only pictures. I was told they include a North Shore RS3, Wise (Potato Chips) Hopper, Berwick Industries Hopper and a Berwick Bulldogs Box Car. I'd be curious if anyone else has any of the series?

Now, it’s been weathered. I think I just need to tune it down with some dull coat, and dust the trucks with some light dull gray.

Great job Artie. Do you give lessons? I have a handful of these.
BTW, nice pc in OGR this month.
Earl
I was drooling over the selection of Weaver Boxcars available at Public Delivery Track.
Mark, Beth has a very nice selection of Weaver freight cars. Unfortunately, when they are gone that's it. Time to load up.
I first became a weaver collector when I ran into a few special run cars with the depots around my home town. All were gone by the time I came around. The only one left was the Leigh Valley/Reading station in town. Sadly that is gone now too. This car has the one station that when I grew up the location was an A&P supermarket. I do remember the LV running at least one train a day and the reading one coal train through town. I now live about 2 miles from the Weaver factory and remember a local machine shop making the wheels for the cars. John

Artie; till I saw your photo last night I wasn’t aware this DL&W cement hopper existed. I’ve been looking for a small cube Lackawanna hopper for what seems like forever. Anyhow, did a quick check on line and, sure enough Beth had at least one in stock which I wasted no time in ordering.
I’ll weather mine with a little “cement dust” - aka gray chalk - when it gets here.
Although you weren’t aware you were doing it, I want to say thanks for the proverbial “heads up” to the existence of this hopper! 👍
Curt
Earl, I’ll be glad to show you how easy it is. Come on over anytime! (Do I have a photo in OGR? I know I sent some emails to Allan).
Curt, thanks for the compliments. Yes, Beth has a good selection of Weaver cars. She’s also coming up with some DL&W gondolas.
Got these yesterday at the same show as the red trailer train flat w/ containers from my last post! Loved CR since I was a kid- that blue got me hooked! That said, these aren’t blue but for the condition and price- I snagged them up!
both in “box car red”/traditional red oxide/brown. The 4-bay Centerflow on the right was the seller’s first attempt at weathering- still, it worked for me. The 50’ Box car on the left is like new and Came in box for a whopping $10!(also turns out it was a custom run in 1993 for Bekada Hobby in VA).Now looking to acquire some western RRs so I hope to update again soon!

Why are three rail trucks held in place with a relatively long bolt/screw and two rail trucks held in place with a much shorter screw? John
The bolt on the 3 rail trucks have to go thru the coupler shanks also, that could be the reason they are longer?
@SIRT very nice General Electric hopper(also amazing looking landscape on the layout)! Did you weather it or buy it weathered? I believe Weaver used to offer to weather cars for you?
nice find!

Lee I'm a lot like you. There is something about Weaver cars. I maybe wrong but I believe your yellow B. and O box car is one of our custom runs.

Yes there’s something special about them I’ll dig my box out and look for you
Lee nice photos! You need another Reading Box car? I have one just sitting in a box!
I've posted these over on Buy Anything Cool Lately. Two auctions, same seller $16.50 each with tax and combined shipping. I've got another of the PS2 Center Discharge hoppers in blue and 3 other ABI hoppers with loads, so this one s now waiting for the 50/50 glue mix to dry so it can join it's friends.
