I have a weaver steam engine with the old qsi 3 board stack. From swapping with a good loco it seems to be the chip itself, it does nothing at power up. I moved the 2 jumpers on the top board just for the heck of it and get what sounds like a diesel startup cranking sound 3 times. Any reset sequence I can try or the chip just hosed?

Q1: Is this the board stack you're working with?:
Q2: What is the "chop" you're referring to?

Here’s a video. The 2 jumpers on the top board are moved to the pins closest to the long contact blocks which is the opposite they were in when I received it.

Chop = Chip?
Yes chop=chip. I fixed my typeo.
Just checking in to see if there is any suggestions for a fix other than a new chip
Hi yes you have to replace the prom ic to repair your loco These proms do fail in different ways, but the chips are available from MTH web site for $30.00 plus shipping if you tell me your engine item number, I can tell you the part number!
I've even seen bad chip cause no motion in either direction but have good sounds, after replace engine worked perfectly!

It’s a weaver not Mth engine with the old 3 tier qsi board not a 2 stack ps1 board.
@GGG knows these boards better than most, perhaps he'll chime in. The three clanks sound similar to the MTH PS/1 lockout sounds, perhaps the older QSI board has a similar issue? In any case, the PS/1 sound chips will NOT work in this board.
That is the 3 clanks which means software conflict between Prom chip and the board. Did you move the chip from one board set to the other? You would have to use a Make QSI chip. I did get one from MTH before they closed, but I have never used it before. If you moved the jumper pin you would have told board different memory size, so that could be the issue. You can't know what is wrong for sure without swapping a chip and testing chip in new top board for sure. The 3 stack is even harder since you have the PS board in the middle. G
I didn't know there was a QSI MakePS chip, learn something every day.
