Thanks to everyone here for all of your ideas, and input. Talked round and round with Tom about my vision for this. Its really great that he has been completely on board ("All ABOARD!") with my ideas of incorporating a bit of our joint interest in toy trains for our wedding reception.
Finally decided a 4'x4' square would be more suitable than a round piece of wood. By having four corners available, the back two will hold transformers. One front corner will have the whistle station, that guests may try it.
This board will sit atop a 60" round table. The small wedding cake will be in the middle with fresh flowers surrounding the base of the 8" cake and on top of the small 6" upper cake layer.
Went shopping for fabric/tablecloth at several places over the last couple of days to cover the plywood base. After seeing many choices, decided on this upholstery floral, very similar to what's in my house and garden.
Tom cut and sanded the plywood for me, then helped me staple gun the fabric to the board, and screwed down the 42 curve circle of Std. gauge USATrack.
Here is what I have so far as a mock up, I'll be adding a 318E engine, and probably a litho church- the paper you see in the pics, is a footprint of that structure.
I think it needs more, maybe a station platform? And maybe a 1930s 1/24 automobile. What would you add to this?
Included here are a few pics of the antique and modern roses growing on my garden, that I want to incorporate into the wedding flowers, especially around the cake on this table.
