My 'Black Cloud' entry into the tin-plate world continues with this Baby Blue Comet.  I bought it new at York in October and it, and it's tender, have needed REPLACED twice already.  I'm on the 3rd one and now this:

as you can see it's a one-piece assembly and riveted to the base of the engine so it's not some simple repair, and certainly not one that I can undertake myself.

Looks like another $26.50 in postage

I understand the pick up is an all metal spring, but isn't that black part an insulated material of some sort so the pick up/center rail "+" doesn't short to the motor side/wheel/outside rail "-" ?

Been a while since I tinkered with premanywars stuff but thought it popped out some how. They could send a replacement.

Thank you.... they are MTH PS2 Dash 8's, -2 models with fixed pilots. I don't run the scale wheels though, they get swapped out for 3 rail wheels. Atlas still hasn't completed their Dash 8 project.... going on how many years now?

This is how my layout sits today. It looks lonely and I'm needing to get out there and restart my work on the layout. I am finaly starting to get my upper body strength back then yesterday I came back from the prosthetic DR with an infection in my knee. so another set back. So hopefully I'll get back soon to the layout.

Last weekend, we took out the club's mini-modular for a local show.

... probably the world's smallest O gauge modular - 2 modules for a total of 66" x 74".  Then again we did have 3 trains running, full DCS, and lots of excited kids.  I particularly liked opening the back coupler on the switcher, circling the track and connecting to the front coupler for a few loops in the other direction.  We also ran two trains on one track - worked great until I got to talking and rear-ended one train with the other!

John,
Thank you. The "pond" body is made with tinted Sculptamold. Once the sculptamold dried, the bottom of the pond was painted w/acrylic paints to achieve the sense of depth contours and icky rusty water. I glued the tires and barrel in place as I was not sure if they would float. The "water" is Envirotex poured into the pond depression. Then I placed the jack stand and the bicycle into position.
Junk yard gate.

I was hoping that I could just email you like I did with Earl but you don't list an email address in your profile.

When I look at the piece, including that Lionel nameplate, it all looks like metal to me.  It's not an old engine, it's one of the new LCT ones just released.
