It's Time for WEEKEND PHOTO FUN!!!

It was long past time to change at the Christmas layout at the VMT, but I just got to it this week. Since I have Lionel Monopoly Cars and the Department 56 Monopoly buildings I decided to use those to replace the Christmas layout. This is still a work in progress.

My favorite thread......thanks Scott for doing this! I have a lot of different themes this week.

first of all, this appeared in the Richmond Times Dispatch midweek:

Last theme is another unit train.........my Tropicana Juice Train.......which is seen coming through Richmond regularly.

Unfortunately, I could not fit the entire train on our 4 track departure yard. I had to use a lane of the receiving yard. So, I used an E33 to pull out the end of the train by the caboose and push it to hook up to the rest of the consist.

31 Tropicana reefers.........that's a lot of juice!

Mike.......i've been doing office-only for 2 weeks.....got plenty of time in the evenings.......Monday, I start back in the hospital with a daily census of 25-30......I won't ever see my house in daylight, much less turn on a transformer.....

Sorry, Gilly and I are missing TrainStock.......but when our Christmas display got extended, we had to stay.......Next year we will plan for both!

Have fun Saturday.

Great photos some nice layouts.

Sirt really loving the details of the city on your modules.

Scott the Monopoly trains should be popular nice display.

Renovating my 2 rail O scale switching layout.

This has been up many many years and been great for switching. The main part of the layout is 6x10 feet has 2 main loops I can just let trains circle then there are 11 sidings of various lengths. All really old Roco 2 rail snap track using the manual turnouts. Works well. Sits on a 2x4 frame over the 3 rail layout below, and 3 rail loops over top along the ceiling for the long trains with 0-120 curves.

Running heavier engines I found the foam base sagging so I added  a few more cross supports, a thin sound deadening foam under the track and will ballast. In the middle on foam blocks on top of the various sidings I have a 4x8 foam sheet on this goes 3 loops of HO track for running ON30 and a loop of road for cars and buildings in the middle. The train runs out around a loop over the washer dryer to a 16 foot 5 track sorting yard along the wall.

It is fun to operate can have 3 people running on this small layout. 1 sorting trains on the yard tracks another switching the main layout for various industries under the city and another operator running the trains over many miles of the Rockies between the sorting yards.

Been removing the dust buildup from many years next to the laundry and will ballast and add scenery when I get the City back in place.

Happy Friday!

Lucia wanted another general, so I picked up this 8004 RI&P General & passenger cars this week -

The NKP Berk pulls a string of woodside reefers around the layout -

Couple shots at Mount Union, PA from 11/15/14
Amtrak B32-8WH 513 is on the point of the westbound Pennsylvanian as it heads over the Juniata River towards Pittsburgh

With a Dash-9 on each end, NS MOW train 911 heads westbound towards Altoona -

Richard E -

Niagara Junction electric. Very cool.

Man after my own heart. Very convincing, after all. I've always liked the looks of

the Lionel (and clones) "44T" loco - not as a 44-tonner model (wrong loco - it is actually a fair evocation of a GE 80-tonner), but as project-fodder.

I like electrics; now that's what I need - another project...

2 or 3 years ago, in Mobile; CSX (L&N) Sibert Yard; old Louisville and Nashville turntable, still used to turn diesels. Roundhouse was torn down in 1980's. L&N 4-6-2 152 now in excursion service in Kentucky was stored there for years; offered to city of Mobile but turned down (!).

L&N used to operate their J4 Mikados (USRA Heavies) in and out of here; so, do you think

that Lionel got an order from me for the the new Legacy L&N Heavy Mike...? Do ya?

Took these last weekend. Ran the units around the club layout for a while. I've ordered the pilot spacer blocks from Shapeways using the files I got from Mario (CentralFan1976) for the Lionel GP30. I figure I can file/modify them to fit the MTH chassis. The coupler sleeve is too small for Shapeways' printers so I'm trying to track down another source to print those. Will probably get a 3D printer of my own in a few months. Will post progress photos to the photo thread as things progress.
