Snowing here again today, so maybe a scene with flowers and grass (not to mention some great looking passenger cars) will make spring get here sooner.

There was a large wind storm in the SF Bay Area on Dec. 30, 2014. Many trees came down including a large eucalyptuses on the San Leandro Historical Railway Society's Depot and the G&O garden railroad. We were fortunate that the damage to Depot was minor as these things go.
The G&O O gauge bridge across Norris Falls was destroyed as shown in these before and after photos. We have started the rebuilding process. We expect to have the mainline back up by April 1.
We were going to replace this bridge with a more prototypical accurate structure. This event just advanced the time table by a couple of years.
Thanks for the compliment! We had the Demo version with flashing lights custom painted by Harry Hieke, who is a forum sponsor. He did a great job and highly recommend him. Here is a quick video of the engine running:
"PTC, that Texas Special E7A unit looks awfully good! How many passenger cars go with it?"
Lionel released this as a set with the E Units and four 21" (K-Lines) passenger cars. They also offered a 2-pack and a Station Sounds Diner to make seven cars. That's what I have.
Joe:
Sorry to see that mess caused by the storm. Look forward to seeing it corrected.
Working on ballast this week...
The kids build a railroad system of their own, an SW-1 rounds the corner on the home layout, and testing out my first command upgrade.
The semi-streamlined K4 got an LED headlight and backup light, flickering firebox glow, railsounds (4 chuffs/rev), TMCC, a backhead, cab figures, window glass, rear electrocoupler, and a more realistic coal load... So far. Some smoke unit work will also be done eventually. No way I could have gotten through that without zap-a-gap, jb weld, and a dremel!

CONUS Lines Holiday Open House saw Norfolk Southern provide a number of their Heritage units for public viewing at Ellison roundhouse. At the diesel servicing facility, other Heritage units were being prepared for tonnage trains being assembled in Ellison yard.

Nice work on he groundscaping, a couple of very realistic appearing photos.
But you do need to bale your cotton.
Heavy switching day in the yards, as many freight cars are in for coupler replacements and having their wheels turned down. #500 is busy working it's last trick before being transferred to an Eastern Division. The boys here will miss her, she was a good one.
GEF,
I have real sticks on my track scenery, but did not think about crumpling
Leaves, - is that what it is!?????????????
thanks
I just posted a YouTube video (4 min 30 sec) showing some features of the Lionel LCS control system on my iPad, controlling the makeup of a Pacific Fruit Express consist. This is my second attempt to capture both the control actions and the resulting train actions. It's #27 in my LCJ&I Lines series, for those who are counting.
I just get a yellow box when I try using the "film strip" icon to insert the video, using either Safari or Chrome on my iMac. So all I can provide is a URL:

A few I put on my layout update post under the other section, but figured I might post here in case someone hadn't seen them who may want to?
The logging yard where they transfer from truck to train or the other way around. There will be a lot of trees planted soon to add to the scenery... I'm just staging here.
View of the train yard towards the hills. More trees coming soon!
A decent shot of most of the layout... once again MANY trees coming soon!
Ok so I stuck an old one in from my last house. I just liked it.
Ok two old ones... sue me!
Joe Barker I am so sorry for your loss. At the San Leandro Historical Railway Society's Depot and the G&O garden railroad. I wish you guys the best at getting it all up and running.
SIRT, that passenger station is wonderful! Like a day from the past.

I don't often post on photo fun, however, I though some of you might find it interesting to see what I had to go through because of poor planing 12 years ago when I began building my layout.
Next time, I'll be sure to have easier access to switch tracks so that when a throw bar breaks, I can actually get to it without moving a large section of my layout.
The first picture shows what that area of the layout looked like after gaining access to the broken switch track.
The second picture is a close-up the switch track with the broken drawbar.
The third picture shows what the layout looked like after the work was done.
Last few rays of sunshine this afternoon....
Just got these two old classic accessories #342 + #345 working fine. Lionel's version of Mouse trap!

Barry,
Thanks for the reminder to all of us planning and building layouts! It may take years to get you, but it will finally catch up to you! I'm glad you got things going again. I would like to see more photos of your layout sometime.
