I am starting Weekend Photo Fun early since I have to be traveling very early tomorrow morning.

Bought these older Lionel F3s some time ago from the Forum and was finally able to run them Sunday at the club. I have a nice 7 car set of K-Line 72' cars that are a close match. Good sound and smoke. Did not have my Legacy system with me and ran them with the Z4000. We certainly get spoiled with command...

Nice!

Always wanted to add lights. From Evan Designs?

That's not a corgi bus is it?

Did you change the rear door too?

Let us know

I actually didn’t use Evans on this I used a LED strip and one of GRJ’s modules. The bus is not Corgi I can’t think of the name off the top of my head. Nice bus and I bought it because You don’t see to many done in MBTA.  the frame is Die cast but the body is plastic “a little disappointed with that” but it looks OK. I didn’t do anything with the rear door.

WOW!!!  2019 is off to a FANTASTIC start with great photos and superb modeling on display.

These are some photos of PW LIONEL F-3 repaints using MPC-era passenger cars that I did several years ago but got out to run around the Christmas tree this year.  (The silver "Christmas" bridge was gifted to me by Apples55; and, the LIONEL "A" trestles were supplied by Harmonyards.)

first weekend photos of 2019!!!! Hope everyone had a good new year!

Now that holiday season is over, I can get back to working on the layout. The last few weeks I've been painting some buildings to make them look more realistic & blend in. On my wife's suggestion, I've done away with the giant oversized 154 crossing signals & ordered more scale sized ones too.

Here's a 2018 leading a coal drag past a new & improved barn & 157 station platform.

added a new siding with a a grain/feed distributor & painted the fire station a more realistic color.

224 approaches a freshly painted 133 station. Brick work on the platform still needs to be painted.

Got rid of the S curve on the outside main & added a spur w/ a factory.
It still needs to be painted. Not sure I 100% like this building here, so I may swap it out for another industry. I was originally trying to keep all the buildings plasticville, but I 'm very tempted to just get some of the more realistic models out there instead of spending hours trying to make these realistic.  Have to make a decision before I put too much time & work into these buildings.

Very nice close ups Neal and tell Stephen he did a great job on the mile posts. Those are the fine details that make a great layout. Did you make the hairpin railings or were they pre-fabricated?

Is it me, or is someone in your layout on a mission from God?  Funny story, someone in the South Hills of Pittsburgh in the early 80s (times were very hard as the steel mills were dying off) went up and down State Rt. 51 putting names on closed businesses.  Every vacant building was "Jake and Elwood's" fill in the blank.  Jake and Elwood's Gas Station, Jake and Elwood's Diner, Jake and Elwood's Donut Shop, etc.  While I do not condone vandalism, as an impressionable teenager in those days, it was pretty funny in an otherwise depressing time in Pittsburgh.

Nice layout,

Tim

Happy to have my layout upgraded with a surprise Christmas present from my wife, an Amazon Fire. I ordered a mount for it and my son downloaded the ap. Project complete and I am now operational! Have a great weekend all!!IMG_4177

Gerry, Can you download the app directly from the Google Play store or do you have to "unlock" the Fire with a special app?

Steve

I purchased this SF full length vista dome, 6-39136, car no. 508, last week on the bay to include in my Texas Special train project.  Of course, TS never had dome cars, but, like LIONEL, i rarely allow prototype fact get in the way of toy train pleasure.

Interesting car is No. 508.  It was part of the 100th LIONEL anniversary set--one of 3 full domes--with four other polished aluminum cars and ABBA SF F-3s.  When I researched the full dome cars on the bay, there was no history of sales or completed listings--I don't recall that happening before in my searches.

508 and paint 004

Since this particular car is perfect for my re-paint project--nothing broken, the parts that won't be painted look great, etc.--it didn't bother me that the upper level lights don't work, and the car has obviously been run a fair bit judging by the rollers and wheels, contrary to the "I'm not a train guy, but the car appears mint to me" description supplied by the seller in his listing.   Besides, this car will get the GRJ designed "roll your own" LED lighting.

Posted this here because as I click "Post Reply" I'm shutting down the laptop and taking 508 apart and photographing it step-by-step so I can put it back together.

Steve & Mike,

Can you download the app directly from the Google Play store or do you have to "unlock" the Fire with a special app?

The app can run on any Kindle Fire, however, you must first download the Google Play Store app to the device. It's not difficult to do, however, it is a somewhat exacting and tedious one-time process.

Complete and detailed instructions for installing the DCS App on a Kindle Fire may be found in The DCS WiFi Companion 2nd Edition, on pages 235-236.
