Hauling J I T auto parts is one of the many specialties of the Q.A.&P. Ry.  The paint shop recently  produced a short series of specially painted cars to recognize the partnership between Santa Fe, QA&P, and Frisco (ultimately, the old A & P charter).

Much of the decal work was created on MS WORD, converted to a .pdf, and printed locally onto laser waterslide decal paper.  These cars have not been dullcoated because I may add lube plates and ACI badges later.QAP_autopartsX

Happy Friday!!

Didn't get a whole lot done on the layout this week, as I'm still working on finishing up the wall & floor. (should have it completed this weekend)

I was able to start & finish painting all the 'roadbed' & get all the tracks operational-

Even had Quimby lending a hand -

Took Lorenzo on his first train ride last Saturday when we took Amtrak from Charlotte to visit my friends in Raleigh. Lucia & him  had a blast!

The kids were excited to have the trains running again -

Here's a few NS pics from the west slope in PA -
NS SD70M-2 2748 ducks under the PRR signals at Summerhill as it leads 36A eastbound -

Amtrak P42 197 leads the eastbound Pennsylvanian through Lilly, PA -

NS 26T rolls through Summerhill w/ ES44AC 8109 on the point & the Conrail heritage unit trailing 2nd out -

Last week I posted a picture of a drive-in scene on my 2015 Christmas Layout saying that I would some time say why it was an important part of that year's layout:

z - Drivein - dusk

I'll keep it as short as I can.  I had my layout design finalized by the end of May (track, scenery, and wiring).  BUT... my sister suddenly and very unexpectedly passed away in June.  I wanted to create things on the layout that would be a reminder of her, especially since I host an annual "train party" for my entire family, including obviously my sister's husband and all of their kids/grandkids.  So I completely re-designed everything to incorporate as many things that I could in her memory.  The drive-in is just one.

I have for years displayed the Miller drive-in sign with the Gone With The Wind theme displayed because my sister was a nationally know expert on the subject, giving talks around the country.  I HAD to put it out in 2015.

I also did other things, some of which are shown here.  I'll not bore you any longer with words this week so I'll continue to show more in subsequent weeks.

This scene shows an overview of one of the areas devoted to her memory.  I limited the house to just the model of her house that I made.  I limited the people by only putting the model of her on the porch of the house.  I'll show close-ups in a future post:

I thought it would be fun to model the B&O Railroad Museum's excursion train on my layout. The cars are the RMT/O Line Reproduction Cars and the Chessie SW1 switcher is an MTH piece.

The B&O museum runs short trips on the B&O's "First Mile" in Baltimore. The cars used by the museum are ex-Pennsylvania Railroad coaches, later used by Maryland's MARC Commuter service. Locomotives vary occasionally from the museum's ex-NYC red switcher (used to keep the miles off the "real" B&O and related locos), the museum's beautiful Chessie GP38, the museum's newly restored B&O GP30 and others. Periodically the museum uses it's 0-4-0T steam locomotive as well.

My MTH Railking Chessie Switcher, seen in the video is Chessie/C&O #8408. The REAL #8408 is at the museum. The museum's Pere Marquette #11 SW1 was/is Chessie C&O 8408 after the PM merged with the C&O. The museum regularly operated the engine up until a few years ago and also restored it to it's Pere Marquette appearance.

Here is a Youtube link to the museum trains with their red ex-NYC switcher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIzSGUmnlv8

On the B&O Museum website, www.borail.org, you can see photos, history, and info on many, but not all of the locomotives and rolling stock at the museum.

Odds and ends. Mobile, yesterday 2/19/16.

Pacing an Amtrak inspection train - I like the New York Central connection of "Beech Grove" (Shops) near pilot:

Near the new NS freight house; someone's Ford to the right is going to disappoint at the end of the shift:

Artsy/dramatic stuff:

Best I could do; the Docks Police ran us off for taking photos - got to keep boxcar technology secret, I guess (but they have a website with photos...never mind)...anyway, this is one of the Port of Mobile's gensets re-manufactured from some of their MP-15's:

Happy weekend everyone!  Here are some shots of a pair of Lionel Legacy D&H GP38-2's that I weathered up last weekend.  I posted them on last week's Sunday Scenic Showcase thread, but not sure how many people saw them.

On a side note....I was having some issues with the Legacy Railsounds on one of these engines and was unable to figure it out on my own.  A huge shout out of appreciation goes to Marty Fitzhenry for diagnosing & repairing the engine for me!  Even though you're probably cringing at the fact that I weathered these...thanks, Marty!!

As always, a great start to Weekend Photo Fun with lots of posts and great photos.

Neal - beautiful cell phone shot of that barn. I was surprised to see round bales in the field though. I didn't know they were around in the fifties. And on your second post about those three cars that disappeared from your collection - make sure the railway accountant takes a write off on that "lost" inventory.

OK, it's not a perfect photo, but definitely a moody one. It's just amazing where you can stick those cell phone cameras and get some incredible angles!

Very nice ROW profile and pole line!  Modeling like this exciting without a train in the photo.
