Mr. Muffin,

I remember when you were looking to purchase some kits to finish off the row.  I've been waiting to see the results since then and Ms. Eclairs handiwork does not disappoint.  The row looks fabulous.  Nice to see everybody in the neighborhood is keeping up with their painting duties.

I'm a little late to the party - busy weekend.

Great photo, Frank.

As has been said, the star effect is a diffraction pattern caused as light passes through the camera diaphragm. It's just a neat effect that is a by-product of the small apertures and long exposures used to produce model photos with good depth of field. IMO it adds some punch to engine photos.

But, let's not obscure the artistry involved in Frank's shot by over-analyzing the science.

Hi L. I. Train,

Sorry for the late reply.

I used the grey carpet because of photos that I had seen on the forum that also used grey.

My idea is that the grey will represent the ballast under the track and in the yards and I will add small scenic plots using green carpet or even apply some ground foam over sections.

I find the grey makes the train room look lighter, I actually had green down and removed it, I find the grey hides dirt better as well!
