I have been doing a LOT of scenery work, and general maintenance getting ready for the NMRA Dupage Division layout tours on Sunday 10-Apr.
Here is a consist of Northern Pacific GP7s leaving Tunnel #4. This has been one of my LEAST favorite places to work on the layout. The track is only about 10" from the top of the ceiling (actually, a box around the HVAC duct). The distance from the centerline of the track to the backdrop is only 4". Since I have shot this photo, the ballast and ground cover in the front has been installed.
This is what the track looks like after ballasting.

Jerry

Off to a good start! Who's next?
Jerry:
You're doing a great job with that little mini-scene area.
Jerry beautiful scenery!
Thanks guys. It is amazing how much motivation having an open house or an operating session can be. I've seen sections of my top benchwork I haven't seen in six months.
These little gems finally arrived this week. Picked them up on April Fool's day:
Seems like Kato's taking lessons from Lionel and MTH on product delays all of a sudden. These were originally due December 2015. Well I guess 3 months and change isn't too awful bad...

Those Kato F7s are absolutely beautiful.
My local hobby shop has a set of Great Northern F7s in his display case. I have been SOOOOOOO tempted, but I need another scale like I need another asthma attack. N scale has come so far along. IF I was starting over, I'd be giving N scale a VERY hard look.

Your welcome Jerry!
With all of the talk of SD40, I decided to post these. This is not the latest release from Athearn. I chose not to buy the latest release because it did not have the rooftop accessories. I contacted Athearn and requested that they include the A/C unit in the box, they declined stating that this latest release was an earlier version

Yo Jerry,
I see you used the correct ballast color for GN
Sam
Hi Sam:
Yea. I also like Arizona Rock and Minerals GN Basalt, which is a grey color. I've used that on some yard trackage, mixed with cinders.
The ballast is actually Arizona Rock and Minerals Denver and Rio Grande Western, but close enough in my book. I like Rio Grande too.

Jerry
Jerry,
My mainline:
All that I have of the real stuff:
One piece of full size ballast and some 1:64 size ballast.
