Weekend Photo Fun 4-26-19-??

Just some photos around the layout. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Looking forward to another weekend photo fun of great photos from so many great layouts and shots, nice pics to start Scott. Have not had time to post for a while so here are a couple of recent sets.

I grew up near the GN then BN tracks just a few houses from us. Recall as a kid seeing from our yard and riding my bike along beside the tracks with the GN colors from Orange and green to Big Sky Blue then the BN years transitioning through a rainbow of mixed colors to the eventual BN Green.

While I have a larger O Gauge Layout in the main basement with several roads.  I  recently completed 2 and half loops of an oval around my exercise / storage room with several tracks in the yards underneath the main loops of track. This is 2 rail scale track for running my longer trains and cars. One of my favorites is my BN all green train. I had some engines in 2 rail and several freight cars I had picked up and converted a few more from 3 to 2 rail.   My old Atlas F units were getting a bit worn gears splitting and I had BN SD 24 on the main layout I had picked up recently an MTH with Proto 3 with the 3-2 rail capability. Converted it to 2 rail and took out the drive gears in the old Atlas F units and added a bit of weight. The MTH engine now very easily pulls the 2 dummy engines and 18 freight cars making a nice long green train. Love watching it run around the room while I chug away on my exercise bike and weights one of my favorite train sets to run. Here are some photos of the train! LOVING BN Green!

The Canadian Toy Train association www.canadiantoytrains.org has done some custom runs of Pacific Great Eastern engine Orange RS3 and various freight cars. Here is a shot of the model engine with the real engine at the West Coast Railway Heritage park, as well as shots around my layout of other PGE cars run by the club and Green RS3 engine and 2 tool cars I painted up to PGE. 

Also the West Coast Railway Association www.wcra.org will be hosting the HeritageRail Alliance Conference in Sept. an annual gathering of railway museums from around North America there will be several tours and trains rides during the event which members of any museum in the HeritageRail Alliance can attend. Last month the WCRA received funding from the governments and private donations to allow us to purchase the old British Columbia Railway engine shops across the road from the WCR Heritage park (which we have been leasing) Great news for enabling us to do preservation work and maintain our engine fleet in a proper engine facility. I rode the train from Strasbourg to Paris Wednesday and the ride was so smooth and the train was going 315 KMH which equals 190 MPH,it is a shame that we can’t make passenger rail travel work in America.

Just upgraded and serviced this Lionel PRR S-1. What a beautiful engine 

I suppose it’s silly, but I continue to run my two switchers double-headed pulling three freight cars and a caboose. My layout is very small, just a round 36-inch circle--a small step up from a diorama. So, it takes something out of the ordinary to keep my interest.

Rusty- not silly at all!  Your scene looks terrific!!  It stimulates my imagination.  In my imagination I can see two switchers making their way thru the countryside to their helper location.  Perhaps with the three freight cars and caboose they will gather more cars as they move further down the pike, needing the extra power to get over the many grades along the way.  The imagination is limitless and not limited to a 36 inch diameter. :-)

I agree!  I really enjoy seeing what can be done with small, or even micro, layouts!

Great shot Alex! I definitely agree that the S1 is easily one of the best looking locomotives that Lionel has ever made. Got mine this December after being in the market for one for quite some time.

Magnificent scenes on your layout. Tell me more about the grain silos. Is it a Korber kit bash? What is the footprint and height of the silos? The weathering is phenomenal.

Thanks for your good words. Yes it is 2 of the larger Korber kits put together. Total they are a little over 5 feet wide. I am not home now, but I think the silos are about 2 feet tall. You might look on the Korber site to find out the exact height. I just wish that this photo did not show the rafters of our home as this layout is down under our home.

I appreciate the prompt response. I didn't realize that Korber had a "larger" kit. I thought they were all the same size. I will have to look into that.

The "larger Kit" has silos on both sides of the main structure. I did this about 10 years ago, so I don't know if they still offer this larger kit.

Here’s a few pics from the start of our Route 66 trip. We flew in to San Francisco.

Then drove down the PCH with a side trip to the Roaring Camp and Big Trees narrow gauge railroad.

Great pics everyone.....this week, the 3 rail layout in the Black Hall by th Stillmeadow Crossing group....

As usual, I "overdo" the number of pics.....but I hope it gives those who couldn't make it some layout ideas....there are lots of vignettes here that can be duplicated on smaller layouts.

As always, a big "thank you" to the members of the modular group for setting up!
