Reminds me of the photo I saw in a magazine back in the late '60s where someone was painting spent Kodak Instamatic flash cubes and putting them upside down in an HO gondola. I did it myself. Three in a row fit nicely. They looked like some kind of square canisters with a lid on the top. I hadn't thought of that in years! Could have fit a bunch in an O-Gauge car.
Mike:
This is a set I sure wished I had picked up. Beautiful photography.
Brilliant!
Dead boards........ well holy moly! That looks GOOD!
Dead boards are not necessarily useless (I'm trying different colors):
Or, to quote Rene Mathis in Casino Royale: "Being dead does not mean one cannot be helpful."
That is beyond brilliant. And here I just threw mine out

Here's the Staten Island Rapid Transit zooming by at rush hour, right in my own backyard. Loving it
Alex
Alex sure does not have to go very far to railfan. Non-train guys may not like it, but for us this is soooo sweet.
I agree with Passenger Train Collector. Alex, you are closer than I am but the UP tracks are only 3 blocks from my house and usually go down in the evening and watch Amtrak, freight going East and West bound along with yard work in the small Springfield yard. Spotted a new Alaska engine being transported north and I left my camera at home........shucks!

I agree Brian! Just sit out back and listen to the clickety clack!
Last weekend I was with the Scout Troop hiking the Palisades on the west side of the Hudson River. I was totally amazed at the number of trains we saw on Saturday afternoon! Completely lost count. But I thought: Oh, good! I can combine a bunch of fun activities: Scouting, hiking, rail fanning, photography, and history.
Here is a small smattering of what we saw.
First up is this south bound Amtrak train crossing Spuyten Duyvil Swing Bridge. I'm not 100% certain, but this bridge looks very much like the one K-Line or Lionel produced a while back.
Next is an engine with a familiar paint scheme. Since the train was operating in "push" mode, I think it is Metro North.
Lastly, we return to the Spuyten Duyvil Swing Bridge. The swing span has been swung open to allow a Circle Line tourist boat cruise to pass through.
