LOS -

You nalied it with your weathering on these units.  That is how I remember them looking in  the late 50's.

Excellent job.  Thank you for posting.

Art, thanks again for promoting our club.  You will be in for a few rather LARGE surprises on your next visit.

Here is a small sneak preview of one of them.  A small section of the Inland Steel Works built by member Chuck Conn,

Here is another shot.

The above two pictures show about 1/6 of the total mill.  More expansion of the steel mill is scheduled between now and the end of July.

Our Grand Re-opening is scheduled for September.  However, our next open house is May 16th & 17th.  We continue to run trains during construction.

My visit with Spence:

I spent the day with a man I like to call a friend. When we are on the forum we make these friendships based on words.  Due to location and distance, it isn't a bad system, I think most of you know those you respect and you might feel like you share a bond with them.  I have always enjoyed reading Spence's posts.  He is affirming, polite and puts out lots of pictures about his progress.

So I decided to make a personal visit to Spence's home.  I called, he was delighted to hear from me and said "Yes, come on up."  We set a date and today I went to view Spence's layout and hear real words from him.  We had a great time.  Shared lots of train and life experiences and enjoyed his great layout.

I grabbed a lot of great ideas for my layout and I was so impressed with the multitude of vignettes Spence has created.  My guess is he may have 60-70 buildings on his layout, some I have never seen before.  Dozens and dozens of really nice vehicles and hundreds of figures all arranged in a well thought out plan.  Automated signals, Super streets with lighted vehicles and a great selection of motive power and rolling stock.  Not to mention a great vignette of his life long employer - UPS.  You have surely seen several of his posts so I am only going to post a few of my pictures.

outstanding job!

Thanks Wood for all the photos of Spence's layout. He is a great guy and a terrific contributor to the Forum. It is nice when you get a chance to visit one of the members, It really cements a relationship with another train guy.

We look forward to seeing Spence in person very soon.

So far, nothing new in the scrap department, but I think I'll try to clean the track on the outdoor suspended layout and run some trains tomorrow afternoon. I've got a small wainscot job tomorrow morning for a family friend, so hopefully it won't take too long. I haven't run any trains outside in a few years.

Cool find!  you would have to open it up on the bottom. Plastic gears if I remember right. Not sure how much it would quiet down but it might be worth a shot.

Of course I am well aware that most of your prefer the "new" look as formerly assigned to the Super Chief.  They didn't stay that way forever though

Fantastic job weathering the F3's, very realistic, very nice photos.

The grandson was here for a visit a couple of weeks ago. The family gathered at my sons house. I took an oval of track, a Lionel2025 and some cars so Granddaddy (me) and my grandson could play with trains. Here are a few pictures.

Here is a short video. I took along a Lionel PWC Log car for the kids to play with. It was a big hit.

Have good weekend,

Here is a few pic's of my Williams C&O GP30 Engine. I got this from mariotrain's yesterday. This engine is very beautiful and detailed but got to replace the sound board because the volume control is broke off can not turn up volume so low and fix black ground wire on rear motor and also was dissappointed with factory not having hardly no grease in the gear box on the motors and truck. I hope williams will send me sound board so i don't have to send it in.

Glad to see you're back on the mend, Scott. Sorry I didn't get to meet you at York. We bought the "Hillbilly Wedding" figure set -- it was so politically incorrect we had to have it on our layout.

That's what I'm thinking. I also think use would help, since it hasn't been run in a long time, and it did seem to get a little better as I used it.

Upgraded one of my LCCA/Lionel modules to include 072 switches. Picked up the track from Ready To Roll on my recent US trip.

Getting ready for the  annual Lionel Collectors Club UK show at the end of the month

Here's a pic of the Lionmaster Legacy Challenger I recently restored.

Very pleased with the result.

 Have a good weekend

Nick

my Uncle Jim found this and a 2757 in an antique shop a few years back. The frame had a lot of surface rust. I took it apart today and wire wheeled the rame. The hopper was really bad in one spot, but I can take care of that.

I also have a 3659 that is missing the coil. I ended up using the hopper from that car.

my next project isn't train related. My Uncle Jim gave me this model to build. He had gotten it for himself years ago, and never got around to it. I lost my Uncle this week to a stroke. Him and I were supposed to go fly in this real one this summer. I'm going to build the model just like the real Collingings Foundation Nine O Nine.

Jim was only 59, eight years older than me, so Jim was more like an older brother. Total shock, and when I found out Nine O Nine was going to be in the area, he said he wanted us to do this before he croaked. well, it's not going to happen of course, and at this point I wouldn't want to go without him. Jim and his 2020 Turbine are one of the reasons I'm a Pennsy nut.

MOW Dayimage

… Before starting the track cleaning MOW, I ran a pair of SD40s.  The inner loop running Lionel Legacy and  CSX SD40.  The middle loop is running a MTH L&N/SCL SD40 DC power through the DSC TIU.  I wanted to make use of every inch of my track with tanks!  Ha.

THe MTH SD40-2 dates back to 2002 and still runs like a champ.  I like the contemporary big diesels but these units are fun to run. … did I say that I like tanks!

Nice weathering. That car must have been sitting under a downspout or a roof with major holes for a few years!
