Happy Independence Day weekend, here are some shots of red white and blue on the home layout.
On Monday we had Canada Day so last weekend I ran my Canadian train on the club Garden railway, it was a big hit with the visiting families. When I originally built the train I used foam blocks and old trucks for the wheels and printed provincial names on paper wrapped it around the foam blocks and used a set of stickers for all the flags of the provinces and territories. Have not run the cars for many years I pulled out the box and realized I had a problem; since I built it they split one of the territories into 2 so I needed another car. Decorated the caboose for the missing Nunavut.
At the Garden railway we have been having a problem with people running across the mini rail tracks when we do not have the entrance gate open. I like creating and building things so I built this cheap battery powered crossing gate that we can place 15 feet away on the opposite side of the tracks and activate lights and crossing arm by remotes. Printed signs on the computer and double sided taped to mount onto plastic board, wrapped in clear shelf plastic to protect it from wet. I found some battery operated light bulbs that go on / off and can change to several colors with a remote control for $15. For moving the gate arm I used plastic board wrapped in electrical tape. I got a $12 remote control truck removed the motors and wheels, ran drive motor wires to a $15 Tamiya "Worm Gearbox" kit I got at a local hobby shop. Still moves a bit fast but can remotely move arm up and down and change lights from green to red all with the remotes.
Independence Day on the G&O. The O gauge Spirit of 76 Engine is pulling a K-Line 13 colony train.

In the heat of the Summer, it's nice to look back to cooler days
Farmer Bill, Great idea
Here’s a variation on a video I posted yesterday on the “golden gate” thread. In 1953, Santa Fe Train No.64 gets underway after making a station stop at Caprock, Texas, behind Alco-GE PA-1 number 70L.
I just got an MTH RailKing ILLINOIS TERMINAL gondola to operate with all of my 1970's and 1980's era locos and cars.
The sides of frames of the trucks are painted red.

Very hot this weekend, spent most of the 4th weekend outside cooking in the sun and didn't think I'd get anything up here. Well, this weekend the BR&W was having a cookout at one of the new stops along the route, which I didn't know where it was and can't attend. Well, going to the store this morning number 60 was warming up, so I popped in after going to the store to get a few pics and video. This sort of reminds me of one of the NYC promotional videos of Harmon Yards where the Hudson's are idling getting ready for the days work. Granted the BR&W's route probably would fit inside Harmon Yards.
Here is a short video running my o scale train tonight!!!
A bit late for the weekend, but here is a photo I took a week ago while visiting the Strasburg Railroad. Great Western #90 was pulling the trains that day although they started the morning by switching cars with their diesel locomotive.
A video featuring my heavily upgraded Lionel TMCC N&W J class 611 with freight and passenger trains. Towards the end is my recently assembled seven car set of Lionel 18" aluminum cars. For the moment they're a mix of the add on cars to the older Powhatan Arrow set (two coaches and a station sounds diner) as well as my newer "Pocahontas" four car set that was sold with the Legacy 611 set. Eventually I'll probably also purchase the Powhatan Arrow four car set when one comes available, but for now I just won't look too closely at the train names on the cars...
Tom,
Love your mixed Santa Fe train. Just got done reading the most recent "Warbonnet". Fascinating reading on the combined El Capitan / Super Chief. A mixed train of a slightly different nature, but great reading.
