This week there is big steam by the New York Central on the layout……..
Have a great and safe weekend, everyone!
Peter
Two New York Central locomotives – steam and diesel – have been running on my 12’-by-8’ layout for the weekend.
New York Central 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler #1232 is a Lionel Legacy model (2131070) delivered in 2021. It’s pulling two New York Central heavyweight passenger cars made by MTH in 1999 as part of 5-Car 70' Madison Passenger Set 20-4026 at MSRP $249.95.
NYC Class F-12 #1232 was built by Alco in 1905 and, after renumbering in 1948, ran in commuter service on the Harlem Division. It was superheated around 1917 and retired in 1952. Class F ten-wheelers also were the standard power on the Putnam Division until the end of steam in 1951. Tractive effort was 31,900 pounds.
New York Central #9110 is an MTH Railking model (30-21010-1) of a Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 diesel (NYC Class DES-14c) delivered in 2023 with PS3 at MSRP $399.95. On the layout, it’s pulling a short freight with a Pacemaker caboose.
NYC #9110 was built in 1950 and had a 6-cylinder opposed-piston engine that developed 1000 horsepower at 800 RPM. The engine design had 2 pistons in each cylinder and was used in US Navy submarines during World War 2. It had two crankshafts and was very tall; hence the high hood of the locomotive. Starting tractive effort was 72,000 pounds with 34,000 pounds at 9 miles-per-hour. Maximum speed was 60 miles-per-hour.

Thanks Scott for getting us started for this fine weekend! You have a great home layout!!
Here is a smorgasbord of photos from in and around Patsburg. Have a terrific weekend everyone!!
A car load of Anthracite coal is being moved over the bridge on the Mountain Division.
Western Maryland BL2 slowly moves a freight train across the Patbrug Ave grade crossing as a Landrover makes its' way over the yard tracks.
Early Friday morning a milkman makes a delivery to the ice cream shop.
Mr. Goodall, on his way to work, turns down Depot Ave in his new Mercury.
It's Friday morning and Seymour Cranwell and family are heading to the lake with their new Airstream trailer in tow.
The Ol' timers gather at the Western Maryland switch tower to watch the trains go by and to also shoot the bull.
These B&O F units are being serviced before they head the Capitol Limited.
The Eola yard is chocked with traffic as the morning Milwaukee meat train is scheduled to depart on track 1 on it's westerly journey to Sioux Falls. An arriving UP grain train is on track 4. So far the weather looks great on this August morning

What’s better than watching trains on a hot, humid day.

Peter were the Auto-Loaders picked up at the GM plant in Tarrytown?
Andy the campers on the layout have it rough, sharing the wilderness with Bigfoot and mountain lions.
Patrick I hope your intrepid campers are heading somewhere else.
My family spent the past week vacationing in Arizona, so a trip on the Grand Canyon Railway was in order. Fortunately my wife cooperated with my suggestion to purchase tickets for the luxury dome car. What a terrific experience! Here are a couple pics from our trips on the Grand Canyon Railway:
