I'm back home after 11 Days on the road. Had a bunch of trains waiting for me, which is always cool! Also got to take a few days to meetup w/ some friends & railfan the Pittsburgh area while I was out there. Also got some snow shots - yes snow shots! I took over 1000 pics, so I will be editing stuff for a while! Since I was gone, I didn't really do anything on the layout, but I shot a few pics since I got home on Wed. Pretty sure I have to go back up to PA in another 2 weeks or so!

GP38-2 & Road Slug lead a local under the PRR signals -

These 5 were waiting for me to open when I got home -

I also picked up the LV Heritage unit & the UP SD70M -

GP38-2 working the yard -

A shot of all my Premier Heritage Units - Still trying to track down a few more of my faves

Some shots of the NS Pulaski & Christiansburg Districts this past May -

NS Dash-9 8918 leads 201 through Marion, VA on the Pulaski District while a thunderstorm brews overhead.

A trio of NS GE motors break the silence at Shawsville as they haul a westbound empty coal drag back towards Bluefield -

NS D9-44CW 9521 leads 13R under the soon the be replaced Southern era signals in Thomasville, NC on the Danville District.

The only shots from my trip I did edit were these 2- While I was up in PA I got wise to the fact that NS was going to be running the new EL heritage SD45-2 on the point of 10N out of Conway. A couple of my friends & I chased it on the Conemaugh Line just outside Pittsburgh to Cresson. There's a bunch more shots of it on my computer, but this is all I had time to edit so far -

Passing Old Glory in East Vandergrift, PA on the Conemaugh -

stopped at CP MO in Cresson on the west slope to get front end helpers

Yes in the dealer halls only.

Do they place the manufacturers in there as well?

Seems counterproductive as a manufacturer to bring displays and operating layouts only to be placed in a photography prohibited zone.

Mark, the snow is made from white floral style styrofoam found at any craft store.  The ice is pieces of dried envirotex that I scraped off a protective blue tarp when I made my river. Hope this helps.

George, the piled up melting snow and ice look real!  excellent job!  What did you use to make them?

Here's some York shots from Thursday.  Shot with a phone camera so there is some fuzz in some.  You can photograph in Orange, Brown and Purple dealer halls, the Black hall with Queen City club and the White Hall section only of the Flower City club layout.

These Modular clubs should be thanked and saluted by all for bringing their massive displays to York for free.  It was the second time I've seen Flower City (first in Black Hall a few years ago) and they are even more spectacular than last time with their large buildings.  Queen City had looong straightaways being in the Black Hall and a great selection of fast engines and rolling stock in their stable.

Enjoy

There was little new to see at MTH in scale O gauge.  I had hoped to see the SD60E 911 model depicted on p. 94 of the new catalog but it was not there .  Most of the new stuff coming was represented using older models.  Recall how at a different show a few years ago  their trailer was stolen with prototypes so it is somewhat understandable, but still.   There was a unique pink GEVO set in RailKing with pink LED charging lights promoting Breast Cancer Awareness.

In the Black Hall, Queen City was displaying their excellent layout and fast stable.

The Flower City club presented in the White Hall.  They were running an CSX SD80-powered auto rack and auto boxcar freight composed of 12 of Lionel's 21" auto racks and eight of the Lionel 84" boxcars which took a full minute to pass by.

The long Lionel auto rack/auto boxcar freight train is the leftmost train in the following picture.  Did I say it was long?

A friend's O-scale layout in Mobile (scenery is, ah, not a top priority); brass steamers only, so far as I know; no sound, no cruise; straight DC; they run like watches:

Would a proper 3-rail version of this L&N Berkshire be too much to ask? And I don't mean a NKP Berk with the wrong paint scheme:

NYC brass (old Sunset?) L2a - looks a bit better than my Lionel version of the same loco, but not much; smooth as silk:

DSCN1477

 Scratch built:

DSCN1485

Lionel Postwar hopper, now living in a different neighborhood:

I did manage to spot 2 internal combustion machines (3 if you count the station wagon).

I believe that both locos are Atlas:

Ho-ho-ho.

I bought the same one and a Harley dealership/factory Dept. 56 "for a song" last year.  Love them both.  Glad you got a bargain.

George,

Yes, i can picture the floral foam and the Envirotex as well.  Very convincing!!

Adding DZ switch motors and (4) dwarf lights to Tom's layout.

There are (4) DZ 1002 push buttons. (4) dwarf lights, (4) DZ 1008 relays, and (7) DZ 1000 switch motors. (6) of the DZ 1000s work as track cross over (pairs).  Automatic non-derail wiring is part of the installation.   Fun    Mike CT.   IMO, my kind of model railroading

Switch pair (number 5/dwarf light number 5) tested and functional, I have yet to add the non-derail wiring leads.

I am here too!

Here is a photo of a 'brand new' Premier ProtoSound E-8 set with 7 cars from the 1997 Vol 2 catalog, I just purchased from a guy who got a big haul of trains at an estate sale.  The cars had never been unwrapped, in the original boxes and the E-8 set had no wear.  He lubed it, put in a BCR, and test ran it before offering for sale.  This one may get a PS3 upgrade, although it runs great conventional.

If I put two of my Pocahontas cars on the end, the engine would just about touch the observation car.  Defiantly in need of a larger layout!
