Again something from France:

CR (Rossignol) made generally small clockwork trains; they did, like other French train manufacturers, also make a Fleche d'Or (Golden Arrow) trainset, which was a larger electric trainset. In reality the Fleche d'Or was pulled by a (brown) steam locomotive but CR made it unprototypically with an electric outline locomotive. Since I do not collect electric or diesel outline locomotive I did not add this to my collection, but I did find two of the CR Fleche d'Or cars which are shown here:

And I run this coaches with a CR clockwork locomotive:

Mail Lady dropped it off a little while ago. I must have never seen one in person, because while I was unwrapping it I was thinking "just how big is this thing?"

Has almost 80 years of "weathering" but it should clean up good enough for the new owner.Missing the little boxes, but I'm sure Jeff Kane will have them.3814.3814

Beautiful sets, David,

However I would think that "Etoile du Nord" would translate to "North Star", not Golden Star?

As a young teenager, my friend and I once traded a diecast Ives 3200 series O gauge S Class loco to Louis Hertz at Polk's on 5th Ave. We tested the motor prior to our visit and it ran fine, but he claimed there was a wiring problem, and subsequently down played its worth, so I believe he deliberately low-balled our deal! We had travelled into Manhattan from our homes in Woodhaven, Queens, and had no need for the Ives engine. Our intent was to trade for some current Lionel or Flyer accessory. Perhaps we would have done better with Carmen Webster at her store on 45th St? In spite of that encounter, I am still a fan of Mr. Hertz, and have his Collecting Model Trains on my bookshelf!

Fred, Many thanks i have just modified my post. A senior moment....

Very best,    Daniel

At long last I have acquired one of my favorite locomotives the JEP CC-7001.  It is truly magnificent. When it arrived, it didn't operate, but a mixture of oil and contact cleaner awoke it from its sleep and it runs quite well.  The box was stamped Chester Holley Tampa FL and I just happened to have a  JEP catalog from the early 1950s also stamped Chester Holley.  Both had the two motor loco offered for $95, and the one motor $75 in the catalog.  Should have kept the baggage van I think I sold to Daniel many many years ago.  Just missed a pretty good 4700 series Wagons Lits restaurant car on Ebay that would look very nice with the locomotive.  Now I have something to look for.

Next week or perhaps in two weeks I will post a really interesting acquisition from the Nina and Jerry Greene collection. Stay tuned.SNCF 7001

Hello Lew,   it is an excellent choice, greetings for that nice piece.   I still have the car you sold me, it was a you say many many years ago, a postal van and also with the Chester Holley stamp on the box. i have seen several JEP pieces in USA with that stamp on it, maybe he has imported many JEP in your country.

All my best wishes,  Daniel

I think Chester Holley had one of if not the biggest hobby shops in Florida in the '50's.  I think he was also very deep into mail order sales during that time period as well.  I bet we could turn up some adds for his stuff in old Model Railroader mags.

If I'm not mistaken Chester Holley's shop still existed into the late 90's. When I visited it was located in a warehouse type building on S. Himes in Tampa.  At the time it seemed like that shop had everything you could ever want.

Pictures and video of my recently acquired Jim Cohen reproduction Lionel 1912 Special. I have owned a Jim Cohen reproduction 1912 for many years and now the brass 1912 Special joins my collection. The cars are original Lionel 18,19,190 but from the late teens.

I think you are correct Pete, I 'm pretty sure i made it there in about 1994 or so.

Dave's right too I remember "The Most"  from the adds also

Great photos again this week, and an interesting variety of tinplate.  I appreciate everyone's interest and contributions.

PD - Thanks for the compliment.  Great looking 258.

Tinplate Art - Thanks, I am growing to like Ives more and more.  I think I have most of Hertz's books too.

NJCJOE - You never can tell what might pop up under your tree.  From what I have seen from your postings you have lots of goodies to run.

Yamawho - The 129 - 132 series of Ives cars are fairly common, although these green roofed cars were only made in 1923. You are at the right site to see the variations in these cars.  I have learned a lot from The Ives Train Society.  These measurements are approximate:

L 9" (not including couplers)  W 2 1/4" Height 3 3/4"

This is more typically what the orange cars look like:

Yamawho,

Actually the sets you see on the wall are all American Flyer.  I only have the two sets of the lithographed orange cars. I also have a set of very early (1918 - 1919) lithographed cars in green.

I think that I am like most collectors; there is always room for another set of cars.  Good luck on your hunt.  The sets show up on ebay fairly frequently.

Greg
