Welker & Crosby produced a unique train line with cast iron and wood construction 1885-1890..
Crosby had a patent in 1885 for the front wheels swivel mechanics.
Crosby later managed Watson Iron works and Bridgeport Malleable Iron Co.both of Bridgeport , CT where Ives had assorted parts made. 1899 Crosby joins Pratt & Letchworth in,Buffalo ,NY ..with the production of the XL and Buffalo brand trains .

Interesting! It’s a good runner. I see it has rudimentary flanges. Was it meant to run on track? They are so small, I expect not.

Carey is a worthy successor to Louis Hertz in many respects.
Oh my ...Hertz was a class by himself ...I was writing him when 14..at 16 drove out to meet Louis .....
Hertz was a great influence ...

Hertz's knowledge was encyclopedic and he always included obscure makers as you often share with us.
His Collecting Model Trains is on my bookshelf.
BTW, I once met him at the famous 5th Avenue multi-level hobby shop, Polk's, about 1956.

Yes the engine has flanges on the wheels but it would never run on track never was designed for track.... floor toy
And a fine one at that!
