my grandfather inlaw recently passed away, he was a big postwar lionel collector, but he had alot of misc cars and kits in his collection. there were a few items in the collection that we didnt know anything about, that didnt seem to go with the rest of them. there were two westbrook car kits, a texas and pacific, and a B&O, 4 box's. from looking at it i think that inorder to complete the car you need the hardware kit, and there are two box's of those. i saw someone was asking information about them eailer. i know there are a number of people on the fourm that build some amazing cars (brotherlove) wasnt sure if these kits would be of interest to anyone here.

there is also quite a few circus car's we found, some unopened as they still have the tape on the bottom. now, i know this isnt in the for sale fourm, but i have no idea what these items are worth. anyinformation or interst would be great. i'll be in lancaster pa for the next two days before leaving for oklahoma

There has been a Westbrook box car kit and hardware kit on ebay as separate listings. Combined their buy it now price is $60 plus shipping. They've been there a long time so it's reasonable to say that is expecting too much. Below that you just never know. I've seen some in good condition go for $25 and others equally nice not sell for $10. I personally like those old kits but most people want the newest most detailed pieces.

>>They are only good for 2-railers, since the underframe gets in the way when trying to mount high rise trucks.

A Dremel (or hacksaw blade) can take care of that.  I have put Weaver 3-rail trucks on two Westbrook kits in the last couple months. You can just cut the underframe a short distance in from the bolster and mount the Weaver trucks, using fender washers for spacers as needed.

The eBay suggestion is a good one.  I would buy these but my spouse would serve papers on me if I get any more kits.

Not true.  I have discovered that if I start at 99 cents I get about twice what I think my stuff is worth.

On the other hand, while Westbrook is venerable, and I feel a bit bad that they are being cut up, they are ten dollar kits.  I would bet you could get $25 plus shipping, but that is because there are a lot of bidders out there who do not know the value of older stuff.

I did four items last month.  I told my accountantnI would be happy with $300.  I started them at 99 cents.  I got almost a grand!  And one did not even sell at 99 cents.

true but then you run the risk of not getting what its worth at all. guess thats part of auctioning. i might stick them on the for sale forum here, we'll see.
